46  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Who's going to get the The Sims 3? on: May 29, 2009, 10:39:59 pm
I was going to buy the Sims 3, WAS. Its been a long road, and much crap has gone on. And I was so pleased when I learned that Securom was gone from the Sims 3, at least the version you could buy in the store.

But then, I learned about EA and their greedy grab at the custom content. I am saddened, disheartened, and infuriated at this. That EA, is so utterly stupid, to take a game such as the Sims. And take one of its major aspects, and not only attempt to deny people the ability to modify it as they see fit for their personal enjoyment. But attempt to follow this idiotic and growing trend of nickling and diming the consumer to death.

Now I know that not all of us in the Sims community are from america, but its pretty safe to say that a good number of us are. And as any of you who pay attention to that sort of thing know. The american economy is in the toilet. Jobs are not easy to get, and I for one will not be forced to continually pay EA for games I already bought once.

Maxis has/had a pretty remarkable game for the most part, but its fundemental flaw is that after 2-3 weeks, maybe month of playing, you've done everything you can. And it gets boring. You need more content. And they design, mostly bland and drab CRAP. Okay. I will not shell out extra money to EA so I can have a Maxis made sweater, or couch. When that money, could buy me food. Or toilet paper. Or any number of things I could USE or NEED.

When it comes to the Sims, the modding community be it the normal, or adult portion, has always had the better imagination. And this is one of those times where FREE content is always better. Okay, I have TRANSFORMERS walking around in my Sims 2 world. They didnt cost me a cent. They are spot on accurate in terms of design and appearence.

Because someone in the community loves the game, and appearently loved Transformers enough to take his precious time to make them and put them into the game and share them so others can enjoy. And the same can be said for everyone else who I have content from. Though I cant recall the many MANY peoples names that I have content from. I have to thank them for taking their time and effort to do so, to make fix's to annoying behaviours of Sims, to the Sims they make, to fixing errors that even Maxis cant be bothered to fix with updates. And they make the blasted games.

And its pretty obvious that I am driving at the fact that, the modding community. The Sims community makes the game. And EA is making a HUGE mistake in what they are doing. Even if they do turn a profit, they are really doing something they shouldnt.

I for one, love to shape my Sims world to what I want. Thats a major portion of the game to me right there, so what if you have a whole world open to you. What good is that if you cant make it your own?.

I dunno what else to say really, unless EA changes its policy, which frankly I dont think will happen unless they have a PR nightmare created for them. Which would involve the whole taking control of custom content..and nickling and diming us to death and their TOS and getting bunch of forces like G4 involved and against them in opinion involved....Well, I just dont see that happening.

I wont get the game unless the stance on Custom Content becomes like it was for the Sims 2.

Truth be told I would get into proper modding for the Sims 2, if I had access to the stuff that could teach me how.

But so far, all I can do is alter ages on mesh's, and make clothing fit for other mesh's. With interesting results.

But if I could, I would make my own mesh's, and would like to make mods and animations. Stuff like that.

Over 4 Gigs.

Pretty much, a gig a year for each year I have been playing the Sims 2. I think thats right..

Aside from my Prison Lots of doom...

I think the most wicked thing is that I breed my Sims like crazy. I love experimenting, testing the genetics system, just to see what I'll get from all different combinations of Sims. Even things that are taboo in real life. I have a mad scientist approach to it really.

And I go about it so much, that I am often shocked when I find a Sim house that does NOT have at least one Pregnant Sim in it. Even deeper still, I breed them so much that I have successfully nearly run out of space in Veronaville. The largest of the towns IMO.

And thats even after some creative removal of decorations to make more room. And yet my Sim's bin is still EXPLODINGLY full.

I used to mess up my Sims lifes, at least certain ones. Now...I have specific lots designed for that with Sims designed specificly for that purpose.

Its a pretty simple prison lot, one little shack, two Servo's. No other shelter, the shack is locked to all. I keep a fridge and some stuff out, so they can make a fire and what not. But mostly, the sims are exposed to the elements day in and day out. Frustrated, angry, I cant believe how often they fight. Oh, and did I mention that they hate each other?.

And I leave all the grave's intact, so they are constantly harrassed by ghosts. Its a pretty awesome torture lot. And funny when a Servo breaks down and runs amok.

Normally, I dont. I'm typically more interested in breeding my Sims and seeing what I get, as well as testing the limits of the Genetics program then I am killing them. However, I have been known to establish murder houses where I make specific Sims for the slaughter.

I torture them, starve them, make their lives an utter living hell. The Devil himself couldnt do a better job. And even in death, I'm certain its not the Sims they are angry at, but me. I dont do that very much though, its alot of work building those Sims, of course with that fabulous Sims cloner....Heheh

He just wants a simple Nude Adult Mesh converted for use on a Teen Sim, with Bodyshop and SimPE thats actually easy to do. And I'll tell you how to do it if nobody minds

In Bodyshop, find the mesh you want. Export it and name it something you can easily remember, also adjust what catagories this outfit can show up in if its not just a shirt or pair of pants and import it to the game.

Exit Bodyshop, and go into your Saved Sims folder. Punch up the search function and type in the name of your exported file, It should come up if everything has gone correctly. Double click on it, and SimPE will open.

In the upper lefthand corner of SimPE you'll see a bunch of stuff for the file in question. You'll want to click on "Property Set". Which will change the window next to it. Click on the "Property Set" there and at the bottom window a whole ton of stuff will come up.

Now here comes the really fun part. But your almost done.

Since you want to switch the mesh's age group from Adult to Teen. You click down there and select "Age", under the Value area there will appear a number like "0x00000048". Thats the standard. And I know that covers adults, I dont know if that covers anything else though. Maybe someone can field that one.

Anyway, you take that number, chop off the 8, and add another Zero before the four so it will look like this "0x00000004". , hit commit, and then go to file and save. And your done for switching the age of the Mesh.

Now if you want to do something goofy, and make it available to different genders. All you have to do is change the last number of the value sequence. Of course taking care to commit the changes and saving once done.

1=Female
2=Male
3=Both

Of course, since these mesh's were not meant to be on those bodies, you get some understandable distortion. Its always been in the neck area for me. And I get the worst with male mesh's. Of course if you converted a Teen mesh to an adult body I imagine the distortion would be really bad.

OH!, I completely forgot. There are more detailed instructions of what I said on MOTS2. I forget by whome at the moment, but, I remember its that member whome I owe credit too. Heh, sorry, I was in a bit of a rush.

I had this tip from TSR and after trying everything else, i thought ?why not? It worked,

if your downloads folder is "downloads" and not "Downloads" you need to capitalize it.

I only wish I had known before I had to RE Download everything I had - or rather am still doing, lol

But when it took my game nearly fifteen minutes to load instead of three, I knew I had them. Smiley

PS  my problem was not objects, it was clothes, makeup, and hair especially.

Give it a shot, it worked for me!           (*sigh, now back to unzipping the last 147,872,659 downloads I had to get again, lol)

I must thank you for the tip, I nearly ripped my hair out by the roots yesterday when all my precious Sims skins were not displaying once I installed Nightlife which I got yesterday. It fixed the whole thing up. Now if only the load times could be dealt with, this is such a powerful computer, and yet my lesser one loads faster.
