32  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: EA Download Manager on: August 27, 2010, 05:48:23 am
The EADM has SecuROM installed as part of the verification system. You cannot separate the two from one another.
Did you download the Business Collection? If so, that is why you had to install the EADM, as that is the way they verify the purchase of your game, and your ownership.

If you aren't logged into the Internet while you play, you will be fine. It is only when you're "live" with the program running that it connects to EA.

Well said, CJ!
34  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: 'Tis the Season for Memory on: August 23, 2010, 02:54:56 pm
Winter is ok for one time just to see what is going on-but I reverted back to just spring, summer and fall. I have a decent computer, enough memory, etc-just it does slow down the game, and while I live in a cold climate (which has a lot of snow at times) I just can't bear to see it snow in-game. Call me fussy, but it makes me cold just to see snowflakes. Cheesy
I do hate winter, in real life. It's just not so much fun as it is in the game. Even the penguin wouldn't make me feel better! Cheesy

Please see post above. My mistake.

Mea culpa, please.

EDIT:

I was in error-I was thinking of Rebecka, and I am sorry if I cast undue aspersions on Monique. Now that I remember correctly, Monique has stopped creating for TS2. Where ever she is, I do not know.

I am very sorry for the mistake. Sometimes the brain remembers too much.

First, the site itself is down for revamping. Second, I can't even mention it here because it is an adults only site, and I don't want to get banned for mentioning it.
Sorry.
38  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: So I spoke with an employee of EA Sims 3 team today.. on: August 04, 2010, 06:46:30 am
What happened was that EA went through some (and actually is still going through) some financial downsizing, and laid off the studio that worked on the Sims 2.
They then hired a whole new studio to develop Sims 3. Different studio, different way of looking at the Sims series. They also replaced a few corporate suits at the top to head the production-Rod Humble was put in charge of the development team-he used to work for another company that made RPG games.
Enough said. You know now what happened to the franchise.

It is fairly awesome-it works only for Sims 2, but if you have certain EP's beyond Pets, you will have to download the mod to match it..I can't use it because I have the "hospital" mod that CH made from the same forum.
If you want any of the files from that site,  you should register and download what you can at a modest pace. There's an active discussion going on there that indicates the site will probably be closing within the next 5 months, due to a variety of problems.
40  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: Petition For New Sims2 EP on: July 28, 2010, 08:24:14 pm
If one isn't careful to check for compatibility of mods with Sims 2, you can stop or crash the game-but once it does it once or twice, you start becoming more careful about installing mods. I've got 250 different modifying hacks and tweaks in my game, but I've been very cautious to check them against one another-and it hasn't crashed yet.
True, it can grind to a halt if you have houses or content that doesn't work, but you find it quickly enough-and I haven't had to reinstall the game at all since 2008, even with new EP's. That says a lot about the stability and hardiness of the game itself.
I could never imagine uninstalling and reinstalling a game countless times to just play it for a few hours. I'd throw it out the window-or in the trash bin. It's shameful the way EA is just cranking the stuff out without checking or testing it, and they're going to pay a huge price eventually by word of mouth and reputation loss.
On the original question though-EA has literally abandoned Sims 2, and we're probably better off for it-because they don't have the original studio that made it in place-and I wouldn't trust the staff they do have to write code that won't grind your computer to a standstill. See what they do with Sims 3? Do you think we could trust them to do better than that for Sims 2? No way.
In other words, EA has become totally greedy and incompetent.
41  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: Sims 2 or Sims 3? on: July 27, 2010, 01:43:14 pm
I'll admit that I abandoned Sims 1 rather precipitously when I was able to buy Sims 2-even though at the time, I swore it would never be bettered. I was proven very, very wrong in my assessment-but now that I've played Sims 2 for nearly 4 years I can say that Sims 3 holds very little if any appeal for me.
Myriad reasons, but the most compelling one is the sheer incompetence that EA has demonstrated in bringing Sims 3 out, in making it playable and their level of customer service (absolutely as little as possible.)
They dropped the ball on this one big time, and after reading all the complaints and reviews that other players have given, I will not abandon Sims 2.
They had a glorious chance to blow the series right out of the ball park, and blew it. That will not be forgotten by the more senior of players. They kiddified it to death and made it as hollow as possible while making as much money as possible.
We won't even go into the issue of the EADM and EA's cute idea of "logging" players while on-line.
Now, excuse me while I go hug my simmies and tell them they have a safe home on my computer. They're not going to be evicted for some shallow wannabe of a game. Never.
Also-if I look very closely at my game with it's graphics, the game is almost the equal if not better in graphical quality than Sims 3. No joke-sometimes I can't even tell I'm really playing the older of the two, and I don't even have to deal with the puddings!

Now, Paden, control yourself! Let poor Don die a natural death-like by woohoo!  Cheesy

You might want to look at Buggybooz's kitchen set-she has some antique fridges and stoves that are pretty nice:

44  Simmers' Paradise / Mods & Careers / Re: [TS2] NPC worker become unemployed playable sim. on: July 18, 2010, 08:50:20 am
Townies do keep their jobs. I've had a few, and they've all had their jobs, with the levels intact. Helps when your sim is poor, and the townie is employed in a high-paying job!
45  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: So I spoke with an employee of EA Sims 3 team today.. on: July 12, 2010, 04:03:40 am
Well, it's going to take a lot longer than next year to fix all the bugs-for every patch they put out, a dozen new bugs pop up. There's a continual stream of complaints and comments on those from the official forum, plus the usual "I can't get my game to start, run or stay running" from players.
You'd think by now the bugs would be sort of dying down-instead, they're intensifying and players are really starting to get annoyed and angry at the amount of screwiness involved in even running the game.
Having to uninstall and reinstall the entire game with every EP and patch is pretty lame, if you ask me. Add the fact that the advice from EA on how to fix the patches is not even close to helpful-"list out your DxDiag, and we'll get back to you soonest." is not a good way to keep players coming back.
