451  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / This is what's wrong with TS2 IMO. on: October 31, 2007, 07:19:58 am
Beosboxboy, you should send this post to the VP of customer relations and tell them that you're a modder for the Sims2 community (as well as a moderator for MTS2) and tell them that this is the general outlook for their sophisticated fan base; the noobies don't know this, but they'll learn.
I wonder how many people have actually destroyed their computers from this game and it's massive bugs?
I think it's a lot, but they're not talking.
As for me, my hubbie (who is a master electronic and computer tech) has had headaches just installing my base game and getting the specs right for it..and he had to turn down the CPU speed to make it all work..from a system that was patched together from parts he found. He's a genius when it comes to doing that, but I doubt most people are when they have problems. Not everyone can build a computer from scratch and have it work properly the first time. I'm very lucky this way, but not everyone is.
But I won't make him try to fix something that's screwed up from the start. He has better things to do.

I have only the base game. I do not anticipate getting any of the EP's in the foreseeable future because of the bugs each and every one has-from the start. I work for a living and cannot afford to upgrade my computer every time EAMaxis decides to have a little problem with their quality. I refuse to fund their incapacity to fix the problems they have with their testing crew, and I refuse to destroy my computer for their sake. It is only a game, and it will stay a game that is highly dubious in content and quality for everyone until EA/Maxis decides to concentrate on their product, not their profit.
Unfortunately at this time, they seem to be fixated on making money from very suspect software to sell to a willing public that will put up with their crap for as long as they produce it.
It is too bad they turned into a conglomerate with no passion for good work, only money. It could have been a lot better if they had stayed true to their goal of making a good game.
I personally would love to have all the EP's, all the stuff packs, but am very unwilling to have to replace my entire system to meet their demands for speed and capacity. They could have done better, and they chose the low road. To hell with them.
The Sims 3 will fail unless they get their act together fast about these issues, and produce something that will actually be worth the money.

I do believe that hack is over at Inteenimator.
454  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / RL University vs Sims University on: October 23, 2007, 07:23:38 am
The game is just a game. It has no real connection to anything in real life. It's an idealized version of what someone thinks it should be. IRL, a university is a big sprawling place with lots of people you don't know, very competitive, challenging and sometimes not half the fun the game is.
Don't try to compare a game to the real world. It doesn't translate well.
455  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / EA To Acquire BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios on: October 23, 2007, 07:17:55 am
I wonder what they're going to do with these new purchases? Make more buggy game software? Improve it..no, that would be too intelligent. They're convinced they have the only game in town that's worth the money. Problem is, the more they screw us, the less money they'll get when their base decides it isn't worth the money to get a bad game.
I can the ending of this particular story line-bankruptcy when they run out of money..and the end of the sims franchise as we know it. There are limits to growth-ask Walmart about this.
456  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Help: Game keeps crashing. on: October 20, 2007, 05:57:36 am
Although I do not have any ep's, when my game crashes-and it does say "the application has terminated", I immediately go back through my downloads and find the offending file. Usually I find it quickly enough because I've gotten into the habit of only installing one or two items per download session at a time-that way I can control the problem. Otherwise I have to look at the date installed, which is sometimes misleading-as the file can be dated by the date it was changed at the creation level.
457  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Sims 2 Bon Voyage Bugs and SecurROM Flame-O-Rama [BV patch download at risk] on: October 05, 2007, 06:41:05 am
Maxis/EA is in the business of making money. They don't care if your computer blows up, eats hard drives or takes over the world. They want their money. They want to make a lot of it. After 7 years of having one of the hottest franchises going, they're used to a lot of money. They're also getting very sloppy on their work, and have made some colossal mistakes in releasing games that are so buggy that people have to buy new computers just to play them.
The best way to pay them back is to boycott /or sue them until they start getting a conscience-however, tell that to the millions of poor kids who don't know how to program one line of computer language-let alone theirs.
It worked for the car companies-Ford, GM and Chrysler are all going down the tubes because they did not produce a product that people wanted-Toyota, on the other hand, is doing just fine. Why? Because they responded to the people who buy their cars with quality.
Maxis could do the same, but I doubt if they care that much. It's only a game, you know.
458  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / How Do I Save Sim Files To CD or DVD? on: September 26, 2007, 06:38:48 am
It sounds like they might not have a DVD/ CD burner-Windows itself is not a burner, there is a separate drive system that has to be installed for burning DVD's that also requires a separate program to be also installed.
I use a DVD burner and "Record Now" program for saving my files.
459  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Curious Question on: September 25, 2007, 08:45:03 pm
Thank you for the very precise and helpful reply-I had thought it was possible, because if the original files (as in the installed game files) were not corrupted, and you have enough memory, it would be possible to have the two of every neighborhood. That way I can play Pleasantview as variable as the one I have right now. Watch out, Dina-your life is about to get even more miserable! Yippee!
460  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Discoveries on: September 23, 2007, 07:45:18 pm
The other day one of my sims had triplets. She is black, the husband is white, and the babies came out in three colors-white, medium tan, and black! Now that is an integrated household! The babies all have blue eyes, too..the husbands little dna contribution.
461  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Curious Question on: September 23, 2007, 03:05:31 pm
I've been wondering about this all day:
Say you have 1 Pleasantview  (or one of the other 2 neighborhoods) in your game-altered from the original setting-is it theoretically or technically possible to put another original Pleasantview as a neighborhood in your game, by copying it to a folder you create as "Neighborhood 7" or whatever in your game?

It sounds intriguing, just wondering if it is possible to do this.

Thanks for any replies.
462  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / What is your favorite Custom Content (download) of all time on: September 20, 2007, 02:03:44 pm
I love my "lotsync timer" by Pescado. It keeps me on top of my 20 (yes, that many) families from day to day. That is in addition to Insim, which I have really enjoyed using, and I think it is better than downloading SimPE, which I can't-it requires Microsoft NET platform and god only knows what else. My poor old 'puter can't do the Sims 2 and that at the same time.
463  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Custom Objects & Recolors / Stairs Spiral on: September 15, 2007, 05:45:54 am
To answer a question about using these in the base game-yes, they do work! Now I can get rid of the ugly stairs in the houses-they take up too much room, and until I get an EP, I was stuck with them. Thanks for the stairs!
464  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / What would you prefer to see more of? on: September 14, 2007, 09:01:53 pm
I'd like to see more mods-more food, careers, specifically. In clothes, can anyone make a decent woman's business suit? It seems that all anyone ever comes up with is teeny bop style clothes; very unrealistic in an adult woman! Designer clothes would be cool, although other sites do have those-classic designer stuff, like Chanel and Armani, Halston, etc.
Also would appreciate more designs for lighting-those in the base game stink, and I'm always looking for better ceiling lamps!
Otherwise than those items, I'm happy with the site.
465  Simmers' Paradise / Sims Stories / **The Tragedy of Lilith B. Pleasant** ~ Updated 6/12 - Chapter Two: Part Six on: September 10, 2007, 07:35:10 am
My goodness, what a full backstory to the girls-I moved them out of the house as fast as possible; they still hate each other with a passion-I've tried to reconcile them, but it is impossible. Must be the past never leaves those two.
Looking forward to the update!
