61  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: My game crashes, please help! on: May 16, 2010, 07:10:33 am
I have a little solution that might work in this case-in my downloads folder, I have a file "Before Install downloads" which is where I put brand new unzipped files to check if they're going to crash the game. This has the advantage of isolating those that will crash the game into smaller parts so that you can find them more easily.
Once they pass that test, then they can go into the appropriate folders. I know that with the size of your downloads, it might be a real pain to do this. But besides the half and half way of finding bad CC, I can't think of anything better.
You should remove and check as many folders as possible, to find the culprit. I've done that before, and while it is very tiresome, it is actually the only way sometimes to find the one file (which is it usually is) that is causing your game to crash.

I do know that Pescado has a hack called "warmthfixes" that he did for Seasons. If you go to MATY you will find the package for Seasons under their "director's cut" set.

If you run the Download organizer, you can point it to the lot bin, and it will read the lots that you have in the bin.
You might not be able delete them right out of the bin with Organizer, and it won't show pictures of it, but if you note the DATE that you installed it, you can go back into the files of the game lot bin and delete them from there. (I've done this before, and no ill-effects to my game.)
I know this sounds complicated, and usually I wouldn't suggest it-but it sounds like those lots are taking over your game, and the only way I can think of to get rid of them is to remove them from outside the game.

Plus delete your group cache file, and your thumbnail files inside the thumbnail folder as well.

You could also get the Hack Detection Conflict Detector from Paladin's site-it does not interfere with any game contents, but just scans the hacks you might have.

Here's the link: http://www.simwardrobe.com/

Delphy's program has been tweaked to work now with compressorized items. In order for it to work with those, though, you have to do 2 scans-one for the "load" and another for after you compressorize your items.

It really isn't that bad a program-pretty thorough, I must say; but the Sim Categorizer I've given up on-after using it a few times with all my downloads, it crashed my game when I had moved items. It can really screw it up big time if you aren't careful.

If they're considering it, it's only for the microtransactions aspect of the entire thing. They want to sell more stuff to you. So why not on-line? Their other site does it (the Store). Hey, whatever works for money for EA.

No, thank you.
67  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: CC-less Lots, CC Lots, and House CC Borks Game Always on: April 13, 2010, 05:09:49 pm
There are very, very few creators who do a good job of cleaning up their houses before uploading them. Most of them are pretty lazy-and forget about one site in particular, those are not only loaded with CC that you don't want, in some cases they have viruses as well.
I've had more than my share of game-crashing houses. They are a pain to get rid of and clean up after. That's when I swore I would be very picky with any lots that I download. There are only 3 sites that I consider safe to download lots from-this being one of them.
So you have to get all the lovely stuff that comes from the houses and throw out the house. That's what I do-install a house, and then throw it out. I use the ingredients to make my own, thank you!
And I do a better job, by the way.  Grin
But I've given up trying to play vampires. They're just too much to deal with. Them and their blood lust, and in your case, sex lust. Too high maintenance for me!

You're very welcome!

That begs the question. How long will it take EA. to jump back on the sims2 bandwagon and try cash in on it's reborn popularity?

EA has abandoned the Sims 2. That's a fact. The only reason they still support the game is that they are still selling it in various forms. They will never get back on that track, and have been attempting to make it die a natural death, only to be defeated by the legions of Sims 2 fans who have no use for Sims 3.

They disassembled the studio and team that did the Sims 2. That's done and over with. They won't rehire them and I'm sure they're not about to even entertain the thought of reworking the game. That would be admitting defeat from their efforts to put Sims 3 on the map to replace it.

You could try 1) Using CCleaner to clean out all the temp files left behind from being on the Internet 2). Doing a registry clean.

I know these aren't directly related to the game, but they do affect the computer's ability to run programs faster. Sometimes that helps the game out.

I should have said, "someone else's tears"..we all know Pescado doesn't cry over anything. More than likely, he was swearing every single step of the way, mostly pirate curses. I would have hated to be Mrs. Pescado while he was doing the first step of modding. I bet he's not pleasant while he's in a bad mood-and that game is enough to make one very ugly indeed.
But then again, when is he in a good mood? Cheesy

I think roerzman was referring to S3, not Sims 2. We all profited by EA's "blindness" to their EULA on Sims 2, whereas now, they've locked nearly everything down to the point where you have to have a PhD in computer writing to just do a simple recolor.
That doesn't make it very attractive at times for modders or creators. I know Pescado was of two minds about modding it at first-and he finally did it, but I think it was for the challenge of "can I do it, and how much do I have to break to get it to work?"
Of course we knew he could do it-it just took a lot of sweat and tears to do it.
If he had to work that hard to do mods (and you do have to admit, he is one of the best going), can you imagine what creators have to do? Breaking things until they fit, and that isn't the way it should be.

A whole 'nother story from Sims 2, definitely. Not that EA cares, though. They've got their own profit point-it's called "The Store" and that's where they want everyone to shop at. Not free or even good stuff. A lot of creators could do better, but EA's not listening to them, either.
Kind of like the Sims when they don't want to hear what the other one is saying-"Fingers in my ear!"
73  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: So I spoke with an employee of EA Sims 3 team today.. on: April 03, 2010, 05:47:55 am
The biggest problem is that EA, while admitting the "game could sell better", will not openly admit to their mistakes in the first place, and that they will flog the game to death with at least half a dozen pointless and bug-ridden EP's. The store will remain open, and no extra content will appear in the form of stuff packs.  They will destroy this franchise through mule-headed obstinacy and greed.

They do not care what their fans think. They've been deaf to their wishes for quite some time, and even if they do hear them, they come out with something so unrelated that everyone will stop playing the game.

They probably will not make a Sims 4. You can probably bet on that, and make money doing so. They're tired of supporting PC gaming, and it's obvious they're going to go for on-line gaming, and microtransactions.

So it's the end of the line for the Sims franchise with this game. Mark my words. In another 4 years the franchise will be but a distant and fond memory.
74  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: So I spoke with an employee of EA Sims 3 team today.. on: March 30, 2010, 11:30:01 pm
It would be quite nice if EA actually considered that-but because they changed studios when they started Sims 3, it would be impossible to recreate the same game from the same people who it the first time.

I think that not only are players going back to the Sims 2, so are creators. They're possibly frustrated with the limitations that EA put on them, and some have given up trying to create what they can't do.

So EA isn't just losing players, they're losing the modders and creators as well. There has been an uptick on creations for Sims 2 everywhere, and I think that's why.

Pretty sad when the modders and creators throw up their hands in frrustration. It says a lot about the game.
75  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: What TS2 Hack Do You Regret Putting In Your Downloads Folder? on: March 30, 2010, 11:21:50 pm
Thank you, Paden for the small tut on the Installer..I've got too many "unsorted" downloads that I just tossed in that folder, and haven't gotten around to sorting. This should help a little bit!
