31  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: The Sims 3 DRM! on: June 03, 2009, 07:44:12 am
On a side note. The last expansion of neverwinter nights 2 was actually delayed because they didn't have their DRM at the ready. The result as is published on the official site, is a massive loss in sales.

They just don't get it or just don't care that DRM is only a tool to harrass the honest customer. I've yet to find any DRM that hasn't been cracked within hours after the products release. That way they really shouldn't surprise that more and more people tell them to kiss their hindparts and opt for the less honorable solution.
32  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Interviews on: May 27, 2009, 11:55:07 pm
These interviews are what you call advertorials in the business. Not a single question about the obvious flaws, not one about possible copy protection issues and sold content. A journalist would have asked about both aspects if he was serious. The positive and the negative.

roerzman is right. Although a luncheon probably didn't do the job. It has to be some serious money being waved in the face of the editors.

Recipe for disaster, and at this point, EA is letting the soup come to a slow boil. 6 more days and the pot boils over, and I can't wait to see how they plan on cleaning up the mess.

I think you're wrong there. The gaming magazines do their duty and write laudatios. Even if it wasn't about the advertising budget, most magazines don't give a rats if the thing is moddable or not. Also, the piece will be bought. By enough people to make EAs day. You can take the level of excitement here on this modding related board as a clear indicator of the general public. The general public will be even more excited, since most of them don't even know how modding is spelled let alone about the implications of Eulas and disk protection apps.

The wrongness in you assumption lies mainly in taking for granted, that people like you or me are the mainstream. We aren't. We are the minority of a minority which I have come to accept. I resent the fact, that EA will have a field day with this release and the example it is setting for future publications. But that will not alter the fact, that it will be a success.
34  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Help / Re: Test Your PC if its compatible with Sims 3 on: May 26, 2009, 12:14:19 pm
I think the game will run faster with ram, which I have. My CPU speed is under the radar, though. But I think it has a lot to do with the ram. I couldn't even play The Sims 2 on my old desktop because of lack of ram. When I put it on my current laptop, it breezed like spring wind. You should get the game because "run it" is not accurate for the most part. My question is still grasping for an answer guys.

Truth is, all components play a major role with games like that. Noone knows how it's coded, but you probably need a solid CPU, a good video card and Ram. Ram alone won't buy you anything, since it only allows more operations to be calculated without using the hard drive (which is much slower as has been said). Without knowing the actual game, I would say the standard is GPU power/CPU power and a fast hard drive.

And keep in mind, that a 32 bit system is only able to adress 3 Gigs of Ram. If you want more, you have to have a 64 bit system.

This just in:  The Sims 3 kills the The Sims Franchise, critics agree...

Is this based on some real source or just wishful thinking?

Truth is, I wouldn't count on the game mags giving an honest review. There's just too much EA money in the advertising budget. And money makes the world go round.

I don't at all put it outside of EA's range to do something as underhanded as leaking the actual 1st build of the game so that they can truncate their profit losses they were going to have from the jump on the game just being a bad game. This is going to be the single most messiest PC game release in history, I know it.

That would be extremely silly. No, I think they handed out one copy to many. It's the same with some movies. DVDs are leaked with "for your consideration" inserts. That points to the Academy Awards. There's always a lose end at some point of the production.

After having let some steam off...  I think the reason EAxis didn't exclude same sex marriages was the thought of having homosexuals' unions attacking them and dragging them to courts.

It's all about whose lobby has the bigger ..... insert dirty word of your chosing. They want to satisfy lobby A which pisses off lobby B and vice versa. That seems to be the new American step dance, at least when the entertainment industry is concerned.

To make things clear, I was pleasantly surprised they included gay marriage although I'm not gay. I just wanted to know if the were that bold with TS3 or if their pantload grew too heavy to bear.

There have been many things I did.

Store clerk in my fathers store, Tourist guide at a major monastery, journalist, paramedic, journalist again, chief editor and nowadays freelancing journalist.

You've got about as much a chance finding someone with a poignant, objective and informed opinion on BBS as you finding an Arena Football fan in Moscow. I don't even bother paying attention to what they have to say because THEY are the fanboys to end all fanboys. As much as we know they might be friends of EA employees, or EA employees themselves with how up at arms they get when you point out the fact that the game has more holes in it the fishnet stockings.

You find them at every game developers board. Thing is, they're extremely gullible and have yet to understand the business world. They still believe, the company cares for them, since they have delivered such a shiny toy, only to please their little selves. Given time they will learn, that every business holds their customers in the same esteem as the dirt under the fingernails of the CEO.

I believe there's a TS2 (mod) beer keg on MTS2 that does something like this.  I saw it ages ago but didn't try it out.

Yeah, the beer keg is rather good.
41  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: The Sims 3 DRM! on: May 25, 2009, 02:34:26 am
BTW.does anyone know of a hack/mod where you can drink yourself under the table.

I second that question. That's one thing sorely missing. Along with the possibility to have chainsmoker sims. Hell, like roerzman said. I don't want to play an xxx game, but I want my sims acting as ugly as real life people.
42  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Am I really the only one who is looking forward to this? on: May 24, 2009, 02:34:48 pm
Does this mean that if a player uploads his/her creation on Exchange EAxis maintains the right to sell his/her creation and do whatever they like with that CC? Because, this is what *I* understand by that statement.

It can't have any different meaning.
43  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Am I really the only one who is looking forward to this? on: May 24, 2009, 12:46:54 pm
Who knows though?  Economic times being what they are they might change thier mind...but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting.

Me neither. In general the industry produces more and more what I like to call throwaway games. So instead of making it moddable, they rather discontinue the support if it doesn't sell. I have seen this with a couple of games and it will probably also be EAs approach.
44  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Am I really the only one who is looking forward to this? on: May 24, 2009, 11:44:04 am
Since there has already been so much bad news, here's a good tidbit:   There is already a working test mod at MATY.  So yes there is some light at the end of this tunnel.

But the question remains if its on the legal side of matters. Otherwise you can only distribute things under the desk in a manner of speaking. According to the community this seems to be the core of the problem.
45  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: The Sims 3 DRM! on: May 24, 2009, 07:17:55 am
Hey nOobs, EA don't care about your loyalty, just your monies. Wake up!

That's what always amazes me. The moment you say something negative about "their" company they jump you like a pack of wolves. It always makes me wonder if they do the same for their phone company or their supermarket. The ideal customers. Lull the into believing you're giving a rats and they scramble to defend your honor, whilst you can pick their pockets at your leisure.
