1  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Back after a decade - some serious problems on: June 11, 2020, 05:33:15 am
OK, folks, after more than a decade absence, I decided that it was time to play Sims2 again. My old installers didn't work under W10, so I downloaded the Ultimate collection from Oldgamesdownload.

Now I ran into a few problems. The game starts in 800x600, since it doesn't recognize my card. So I tried to change resolution as described in here.

https://simsvip.com/2014/07/20/the-sims-2-ultimate-collection-increase-resolution-guide/

Problem is, after editing the file, the game doesn't start at all, but comes up with the error message, no dx9 device was found. Only rolling back to the old Graphics Rules.sgr fixes that, but at the cost of the ultra low resolution.

Anyone ran into similar problems and has a fix?

Edit: Solved. Well, kind of. The solution lies in windowed mode. I still can't run it in fullscreen.

2  Simmers' Paradise / Content Creation & Recoloring Help / Sorry if this has already been asked - extracting meshes on: September 24, 2009, 05:35:00 am
I did a search, but either I didn't use the right phrases or it hasn't been asked.

I'm looking for a tool to extract and repack packages in order to get to the meshes. Wanted to try my hand on some custom clothing.
3  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Bodyshop - texture problem on: May 17, 2009, 07:10:55 am
Using the search function I found a topic matching my problem, but the user said it was solved without saying how.

So, here goes again:

I can't export certain clothing items due to a texture error. I understand, this is due to some bumps the creator of that package used. At least that's what flows around on other boards.

But is there a possibility to extract the textures for recoloring without using Bodyshop, SimPe or Wardrobe Wrangler? The latter two won't work on my rig, having problems with the Sim version I am running. So I'm pretty much out of fresh ideas. Any help would be appreciated.
4  Simmers' Paradise / Apartment Life Help / feed treat bug - again on: September 18, 2008, 07:37:52 am
I remember, this was an issue with pets, but I can't find the thread dealing with it in the past.

However, since installing apartment life, my Sims want to feed treats to each other and have wishes like xxx learns to sit up and the likes (xxx is a fellow Sim of course).
5  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Anyone knows how the game administers downloads? on: September 15, 2008, 03:12:01 am
There have been a lot of threads about how the game doesn't recognize certain downloads.

I have a similiar problem, but I think I found at least some clue. Objects and hacks show up fine, but everything sim related (custom Sims and clothing) is a gamble. These things may show or the may not.

Installing AL I also made another peculiar discovery pointing in that direction. Activating custom content lead to Sim related stuff (at least some of it) to show ingame whilst the building and decorating stuff stayed inactive and could only be activated through several tedious attempts.

So, obviously the game administers both categories seperately - but how? What is responsible for that kind of action?
6  Simmers' Paradise / Apartment Life Help / Anyone able to translate that error? on: September 11, 2008, 04:48:05 pm

Happens with each and every phone to the extent that every sim trying to use one is immediately lost. So I'm not sure if the Sim in itself is the error or some other object.
7  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / reflective floors/walls? on: August 06, 2008, 07:46:28 am
Hi!

I have downloaded quite a few houses, that show reflective floor/wall elements like in this picture: http://www.insimenator.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=116243&d=1207318029

Problem is, that in my game they either look dull or they show a blue surface as if the particular element wasn't there, which isn't the case. I have these floor/wall elements.

Is there some special trick to create these effects or do I have some particular setting? I have switched my special effects and my textures to high and reflections are of course turned on.

Edit: Just saw, that I probably need something called "reflection wall" to get that effect, but all the links for that kind of wall seem to be dead by now. Can anyone help?
8  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Problems with TV and Computer on: March 15, 2008, 08:20:11 am
I'm running the Sims on Vista 64 with an ATI Radeon 3800.

The game in itself runs smoothly. Problem is, that whenever some kind of cinematic routine should run on PCs or on the Tv set, the screen stays blank. I already have installed the latest drivers and fiddled with the ingame and card settings, but ot no avail.

Anyone else encountered that kind of problem under similiar circumstances?
9  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / How can it be .... ? on: March 09, 2008, 05:12:58 pm
I created a guy who's most shy and most nice according to his stats. And now, all over sudden, he's going berserk and tries to beat up each and every Sim in the flat. He never liked them very much, cause they're slobs and he's finicky, but it certainly seems as if he's going on a rampage and if guns were allowed in this game, I think I would witness a major family drama.
10  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / How to best organize your download folder? on: October 19, 2007, 03:55:09 pm
Here are a few things I'm not sure about. But I'd like to make things tidy for a change. So here goes:

Am I right in assuming, that the latest expansions support folders and subfolders in the download folder?

I have downloaded a lot of clothing items with meshes - Does it matter if some particular mesh is present in multiple folders?

And a final question: I've donwloaded a lot of Sims, that look awsome in the screenshots, but opening the custom sims in CAS they show up a clones of default sims or clones of other custom sims although all the files are installed twith the clean installer. I don't overwrite if I'm prompted, since I'm assuming, that these particular files are already present. Or would it be better to create a seperate folder for each installed sim?
11  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / doggy sticking in the pavement on: October 14, 2007, 10:00:53 am
First, I appologise if this has been answered before, but I don't even know what to search for.

Since I installed Seasons, everytime I create a new family with a dog, that doggy starts chasing his tail to end up sticking in the pavement up to his shoulders. I didn't take any pictures, since after several times this had happened I was that p....ed, that I wanted to smash my screen.

Has anyone else experienced this and knows of salvation?
