Also, sometimes the thumbnails in CAS are wrong.

Control-right click on a thumbnail to reset it.

Used to be one in the old Insim site's Requests--Mods & Careers section, but no longer there, I'm afraid.

Layerable freckles (much nicer in game than they appear in the pix there) in a variety of densities made by Corvidophile:

The next 2 links are to the graveryard only, as the original sites are long gone.

Decent freckles and nice beauty marks/spots in Helaene list:

And also in the SussiSoGoodSims list:

95  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Major, major insane lag. on: September 04, 2009, 09:12:26 pm
Entirely up to you what you want to try to uninstall (with the same caveats mentioned previously) and then see if the lag improves.

All I can offer is that the later EPs are more additionally graphics-intensive and computer-resource-hogging than the earlier ones.

My own desktop computer cannot handle anything after OFB, and that is because the best graphics card it can possibly accomodate (not the manufacturer's chipset, but a freestanding graphics card) gets flummoxed with any of the later EPs.
96  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Major, major insane lag. on: September 04, 2009, 07:35:50 pm
My thoughts are to first do a back-up of the entire My Documents--EA Games--The Sims 2 folder, and then uninstall FreeTime and Bon Voyage.*

Also you'd need to delete any BV-specific or FT-specific custom content you have.

If the lag is still more than you are willing to put up with, then uninstall Seasons.

Base game up through OFB are not as computer-straining as are EPs (and the M&G SP) which came out after OFB.

Remember that Sims2 is not backwards-compatible (you will lose all your saved games), so read about uninstalling EPs (and about back-ups) here before doing any uninstalls:

http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Uninstall#How_to_Uninstall_Expansions

*If you don't want to lose your saved games, then you should not uninstall an EP.

You don't list the processor or graphics chip types but, for that machine, it would seem you have way too much game installed for the processor and chipset (onboard graphics) to handle without the major lag you mention.

Based on the manufacturer's specs, my own guesstimate is that the machine could probably handle up through OFB, but any EPs beyond that would severely strain (and could potentially damage) both the processor and the graphics chipset.

EDIT: Just to be a bit clearee, the graphics chipset (Intel GMA series) is likely the real weak link for dealing with EPs beyond OFB. Especially with a laptop, excess heat generated by the strain on the chipset can be a threat to the life of the computer.
98  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: a real big problem on: September 04, 2009, 05:02:29 pm
After checking what is suggested above, if the problem with the pictures of items continues, then do this:

Go to My Documents--EA Games--The Sims 2 folder.

Open up the Thumbnails folder there, and delete everything inside that folder (but don't delete the Thumbnails folder itself).

This will force the game to generate all new thumbnails for the clothing (and all other items), which, the first time you go to the catalog to choose Buy or Build items, will make things run a bit slower than usual.

After the new thumbnails have been generated, that extra bit of slowness will disappear.

Can't see how it could damage your computer.

Don't know of any way to replace them. Not saying it is impossible, just don't know of any method.

You are right. But how come in sims 3 there are hacks that replace grim reaper ?

Not trying to be cute about it, but Sims 3 isn't Sims 2.
101  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: How to replace unditable sims? on: September 04, 2009, 02:40:50 am
All I can offer is that there are certain 'special' NPCs (Grand Vampire, Mrs. Crumplebottom, Grim Reaper, etc.) which should not be tampered with (outside of purely visual cosmetic changes) without risking irreversible damage to your game.
102  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Re: WCIF homeschool mod on: September 02, 2009, 08:29:54 pm
If you have Insimenator (obligator notice: noi longer supported), you cn choose 'No School' for any particular Sim.

Some other No School mods (free reg. req.):

http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=165379

(Pets & Seasons): http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2052

(Uni and NL): http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=152

There may be other versions at that site for EPs after Seasons as well.

Don't recall precisely, but think that the above would each affect ALL households.

Make sure kids are back from school before installing any of those mods.

Also a possibility is the Flexi-school listed on this page: http://simlogical.com/sl/Sims2Pages/Sims2_Schooltypes.htm

103  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Make Town (Like Strangetown) Into Something Else... on: September 02, 2009, 06:27:43 pm
Can be done, but requires some serious futzing with files.

Easier (and faster) to just use an empty template of Strangetown (along with the mods suggested at the link to keep NPCs, townies, etc. from spawning, if you wish). See here for some empty template 'hoods:

http://kandbdesigns.vndv.com/html/hoods001.html

See the readme file accompanying the 'hood download for how-to info.

Just in case, at the bottom of the page linked, there are clean (rather than empty) versions, which include Maxis already-live-in-'hood families but empty of all other characters.
104  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Ikea items suddenly gone... on: September 02, 2009, 03:55:26 am
Before you do anything else, go to My Documents--EA Games--The Sims 2 folder and delete the following files (if any of them are there):

groups.cache
accessory.cache
cigen.package
Content registry

All safe to do -- game will create fresh files if they're needed.

Those files can and do become bloated or corrupted, and having fresh versions created by the game can help with such problems.

Also, if you've not already done so, make sure all your EPs/SPs are patched. Note that if at any time you've uninstalled a patched EP/SP and then re-installed it, it will need to be patched anew.

Patches here:

Should probably also mention that the more active Sims you have on a lot, the greater the stress on your computer and graphics card. So if things get slowed down or wonky, you'll have a good clue about what instigated that game behavior.
