1  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Pets sink into ground with and without mods/hacks on: October 31, 2006, 01:32:48 am

I took everything out & still have it. the testing cheats keeps them from dying till i can get them restored enough not to disappear beneath the earth Smiley

If you use the boolprop controlpets on cheat, just command the sunken pet to do some other activity, and they will pop right up and go on their merry way.

I never used any of the mods that other people are blaming for this. All the mods I use have been pet approved and verified to not cause trouble. It *may* be a conflict of some kind between mods, but you aren't the only person with no mods to still have the problem.

Check out what the pet is doing just before sinking, and my guess is they were trying to use an object another pet is using. That cause has been quite consistent in my game. Not random, at all.
2  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Cats / Improved Tonkinese Breed on: October 27, 2006, 06:01:58 pm
I personally didn't care for the Tonkinese breed that came with the Pets game. So I made what I consider an improvement on the type.

For all the people who loved the old fashioned "apple-head" Siamese you probably grew up with, the Tonkinese is your cat. I hope you enjoy these darlings in your game.
3  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Cats / Much Improved Abyssinian Type on: October 27, 2006, 05:54:26 pm
The Abyssinian breed that came with the game is hardly recognizable as an Aby. While the constraints of the game make it impossible to do the facial markings that make an Aby so very endearing, it is possible to come a lot closer to the breed than the folks at EA Games managed to come.

The AMjoie Aby breed is dedicated to all you Aby devotees who just can't live without your hyper, crazy babies in the game.

The only time my pets sink is if they want to use an object another pet is using. Instead of the "waving arms-stomping feet" thing, they just sink into the ground. I think maybe they might be missing an animation for "frustration" at not being able to use an "in use" object.

By the way, if you have four food dishes all filled, they will still sink into the floor next to the one food dish some other pet is using. Ditto with the pet beds. No matter how many you have, the pet will sink into the floor next to the occupied bed rather than bothering itself to find another empty pet bed.

Modders are aware the "pet ownership" code in the game is messed up. Give it a little bit, and someone will have a fix for this.
5  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Dogs / Much Improved Poodle Type (Miniature and Standard) on: October 24, 2006, 08:28:46 pm

The poodles that came with the game are the canine equivalent of Goopy, and that is putting it mildly. So there was nothing to do but start all over and create the poodle they should have put in the game, to begin with.

On my website, you will find both standard and mniature poodles in all colors. The much improved type looks good even without the poodle cut, so it will breed well with other non-poodle dogs.

You will need the standard files for large dogs and the miniature files for small dogs. You CANNOT simply size up or down, because of differences in type between the large and small poodles. The one zip file includes both sizes, as adult dogs, in all colors.

EDIT: I'm not sure how the color unlocks work with pet downloads using unlocked colors, so I don't know if you will manually have to unlock the pink color for dogs. But, my white, champagne, and blush poodles do use the pink color in their undercoat, so please unlock the pink color for dogs, if it isn't automatically unlocked by downloading the white poodles. All the unlock codes can be found on the Insim site. Thanks!

Go here for realistic and beautiful poodles:

Yes, the campfires were great! About the smoke mod for the bubble blower there is a mod on MTS2 somewhere that does basically that. I can't seem to find it at the moment (and I'm too tired to look that hard lol)... but if you look int he hacks section it's in there somewhere.

Does the mod you are talking about get rid of the "higher than a kite" syndrome? That just doesn't lend itself to my storyline. I did find a "smoke pot" mod, but that's not what I'm after. LOL

To change the subject:

Be careful what you wish for, when you ask Maxis for Sims 2 pets. Judging by their past expansions, what you will get is various ways to die by pets: poisonous snakes and spiders, rabid bats, deadly pet diseases humanoids can catch, pirahanas and sharks in pools, cat pans that cause miscarriage, dogs that attack and kill their owners when not properly trained, parrots and owls that bite viciously -- and dare we speculate -- killer werewolves. With each expansion, Sims 2 turns more into a death simulation than a life simulation.  tongue

Another thought:

I'd like some gentle little faeries. Not the batoutofhell type, but pastel colors and beautiful butterfly wing type faeries. With clever outdoor woodsy objects and building materials so they can live in a home "without walls." I'm thinking about lovely waterfalls for showers, mushrooms for chairs, lightning bugs for lights, etc. I had all that in Sims 1, and really miss it. Probably too sweet for Maxis, though. They don't do beautiful ....

I miss a family and guests singing around open campfires. I also miss the smoking hack for a bubble machine, where sims just sit and talk to one another (instead of floating and somersaulting). I used to use both of those circumstances for great stories about family legends being sung, and gatherings while smoking to resolve family relationship issues.

Both were central to a tribal type society I had going for many generations in Sims 1. I wanted to continue the saga, but I was missing some key elements, so I sadly said good bye to the story line. (gets misty with nostalgia)
