48  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / downloading help!! on: July 19, 2008, 08:03:30 am
It's not so difficult: install one of the two, either winzip or winrar (I'd recommend winrar, but after a while it will be bugging you to buy, you can still use it though). You do this with a double click on the installer (the file you downloaded). The install wizard will guide you through the installation process.

After you installed the program, the packaged files you downloaded will show the icon that is associated with winrar. To install these packaged files, just double click, a window pops open and you can drag and drop the .package files to your downloads directory (..\My Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads - it's the directory, where the neighborhoods and all the user data is located, not the installation path). If you don't have that directory yet, just create a folder called "downloads" and put your package files in there. If you plan on installing more content in the future, which is likely, because it can easily become an addiction once you see how beautifully you can enhance your game with downloads, you should sort your stuff. There are good tutorials on MTS2 how to do it. You need to have at least Nightlife to use subfolders.

The clean installer is for installing the Sims2Pack files (Sims) and for organizing your downloads folder.

If this was confusing, just ask again. Smiley
49  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Deleting skins on: July 12, 2008, 07:22:47 am
Uh-Oh, I guess you got bigger problems than a few too many skins.

I'd try the radical method of moving (NOT deleting! don't blame me when your cc ist gone *g*) your complete downloads to a safe place. Or maybe start with moving your hacks and other modifications, if you have properly sorted them. Then try if the game starts and if yes, start putting cc back in in small chunks (how many downloads do you have, anyway?). The moment the game starts to act up again, you got your culprit in the last group of downloads.

If that procedure doesn't take, then maybe some config  files are screwed up...

But wait, before you do anything else! I just remembered that there's these magical files that may be the problem and have to be deleted: go in your EA Games\The Sims 2 directory, the one, where the downloads sit and delete the Accessory.cache, cigen.package and Groups.cache. The game will regenerate them the next time you play and they may well be the reason for your problem.

Good luck!
50  Simmers' Paradise / FreeTime Help / Where are my neighborhoods in Free Time? on: July 11, 2008, 04:06:34 pm
Okay, I screwed up. Again. Cheesy
There was one too many sets of neighborhoods, so I confused my game with my backup, lol.

If a mod wants to delete this thread, go ahead, I doubt it is of general interest.
Sorry for the confusion.
51  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Deleting skins on: July 11, 2008, 03:46:22 pm
If I remember right, you can only delete the cc in sim building mode, not in creating parts mode, which would be the logical place... Wink
52  Simmers' Paradise / FreeTime Help / Where are my neighborhoods in Free Time? on: July 11, 2008, 05:07:38 am
I hope this issue hasn't been adressed a hundred times before, my search didn't turn up anything.

My complete hoods are in the data directory (the other custom content including insimenator 2.8 works fine), but they just don't show up in game. Do I need to modify some config file?

And while I'm here... is it a known bug that a sim gets in a cab, after the cab drove away, sitting in thin air and then riding away (in thin air) and never arriving at or coming back from the secret lot? That happend to me last night, I just ended the game without saving, but it was a test sim in a test hood anyway, so no big deal for now.
53  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / instant pregnant? on: December 22, 2007, 10:05:51 am

54  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Packing Sims on: December 22, 2007, 06:59:23 am
Somewhere here on insimenator there's a link for the beta version of SimPe BV. It works for me, but I really can't remember where exactely I found the link or who posted it.
Search the help sections and maybe you'll stumble upon it.

56  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / My Sim Is Stuck In Buy Mode In BV on: December 21, 2007, 07:37:21 am
I believe I already said that... *confused*

Aside from you don't need ANY relationship with a sim you use the family tree on.
57  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / custom content help =) on: December 19, 2007, 07:37:52 am
What do you mean by "downloaded"?
Do you mean you bought them and installed them? Cos like MaryH said, we don't talk about illegal sims here.

Ok, if you installed your sims, you should find in your documents/eagames only the one The Sims2 folder. Inside that folder you create a Downloads folder (with capital D and s!). Then you put your custon content in there.

In game you need to check "show custom content" in your game options, close the game again and start it again. Some people need to do that a couple of times untill it showes up finally.

I am not sure if I understood all that, but am I right that you ultimately want to invite the sim to live with a family in the regular neighborhood?

If so, do you have the Insimenator and did you already try to spawn the family tree and select "add to household" - "name of sim"?
If that works but you want to properly ask him, you could select "remove from household" - "as townie" after that and you could meet him again regularily

Basically follow the tutorial except you will be taking your mesh and texture files from your cloned item.

Um, the tutorial is what I don't have.
I got the SimPe beta for BV and experimented with that. I am not well versed with SimPe, it's very un-intuitive for me. Also it is German, which is generally not a problem, cos I am too. BUT. It complicates working with English tutorials and I never even saw the German descriptions in game.

You probably don't wan't to use as is because the size of the file would be huge.

I have no clue what that means.:-?

Anyway, I opened the object workshop and found a file I wanted to clone. I checked "create standalone object" (but I didn't change any of the default checks). I didn't know what to do with the following window, so I just saved the file. It created a name.package and a name.bak, but they have slightliy different sizes.

I put the package files in a folder and put it into the downloads folder.
In game I found the five objects, but I only found them with the asterisk for cc, the original files weren't there anymore. I then bought those objects and put them on a lot. Closed the game, pulled the cloned objects out of the downloads, started the game. My objects were still there, I used the eyedropper tool on them and that led me to the original game objects, which were there again (without asterisk).

So... are the items I created the the ones I want and that I can put in a game without the BV expansion? If that was it, it wasn't very painful at all. Wink
And another thing: those five were the only ones I found of those I wanted to have, but there are many more. Four of the five plants I found in "unknown", one in "plants". Where are all the other objects? And I take it, it's generally not as easy to clone fences?
