2  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Print Screen...need help again on: November 18, 2008, 03:14:24 pm
Actually, myself and another member have the exact same issue. Except I think my card is set to it's default settings, but I still get the black screen when I run the game full screened.

Sweetpea, I'll see if I can download Gimp today and make a Gimp specific tutorial for you. If I remember correctly, it's actually easier with Gimp. It's been a while since I used it. Tongue

Well, several people have asked me about how to make avatars, and I've finally got a mini tutorial sort of put together. This is just to illustrate how to animate the avatars. I'll put together one to show you how to add all the fun borders and stuff a bit later on. But for now, here's how to make animated avatars.

For this tutorial, I'm using Photoshop 7, but I know Gimp has this ability as well, and is actually easier to do. Smiley This tutorial also assumes that you have three frames completed that you want to use for your avatar.

To start off with, create a new file in Photoshop, and make the size 100 pixels wide and tall.

Open your completed frame files, and make sure that they've been resized to 100 pixels by 100 pixels. Copy each one, and paste it into the new avatar file. In the example, I've merged one layer with original background, but it doesn't really matter how you do it, as long as each picture is it's own layer.

Now click the button at the bottom of the main tool bar/box, to switch the file over to Adobe Image Ready.

This is basically it's going to look like this.

Click the little duplicate frame button to make the total number of frames you want your avatar to have.

Now, click each frame, and deselect any frames that you don't want to show. Do this for each frame.

Now, on each frame, you need to change the frame delay time. Click the delay time under the frame to change it. Click other and then enter 1.5 seconds and hit ok. I set all mine to 1.5 seconds, but you can fiddle with the time if you want. Make sure to change this on each frame. At this point, you can click play on the preview screen, and you can see the avatar animation to make sure you like it.

Now you're going to save your avatar. Go to the file menu, and click Save Optimized As...

It will automatically save as a .gif file, and you want to leave it as that so it will preserve the animations. Save it wherever you like and then you're done! Upload and have fun!!

Here's how the test one came out.

11  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Download folder on: March 04, 2008, 03:45:00 pm
I've started using multiple game boots/Sims 2 folders so I have sorted everything so I can do fast syncs and backups.

Under Downloads I have the following folders...

Build
Hacks
Sim
Themes

Under Build, I have subfolders for each site, and then under those, a folder for each different set, etc.
Under Hacks, same as above.
For the Sim folder, I add subfolders for different things first, like Makeup, Clothes, Eyes, Hair, Accessories, etc. And then in those subfolders, I subfolder again by creator and then again by each set/download.
For the Themes folder, I just put stuff in that I only need for a short time, and that I won't use again. That way it's easily deleted when I'm finished with it.

So far, it's worked beautifully for me. Backups are a snap, and since I run multiple different Sims 2 folders for different things, I can sync up all my downloads in no time at all. I can find stuff, and it works great for finding bad files too. Hope that helps someone... Smiley
12  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / EP to choose? on: January 27, 2008, 04:17:00 am
I agree with the above. Seasons or Nightlife. I do like OFB, but it gets boring pretty fast. The other two stay interesting for longer. Smiley
