1  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Sims 2 won't start up? on: August 06, 2008, 12:22:09 pm
Usually the cache files are one directory above your Downloads folder Wink
under Vista it's like C:\Users\< YOUR ACCOUNT>\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2
The Thumbnail directory you'll find  there too.

4  Simmers' Paradise / Sims Life Stories Help / Castaway storys downloads location on: July 06, 2008, 08:37:31 pm
I have you know that I on my Vista SP1 I tried the Obj-version of Insim 2.7b and 2.8 (one after the other NOT both the same time;) and neither did show up. Not if I put it into Downloads nor if I put it into the Override folder.
But Importing a pre made Simie is absolutely no problem. Here is, how I did it, without juggling folders back and forth :
#1) Start Bodyshop of your actual Sims 2 Extension (mine was BV)
pick, edit and pack your chosen Sim. Normally it's saved to your desktop as .Sims2Pack.
#2) Now tie the Sims2Pack extension to the Castaway Package Installer
Normally under "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims Castaway Stories\TSBin\PackageInstaller.exe"
To do hat, you simply right-Click the Sim on your Desktop, go to "Open With" and give it the path to said PackageInstaller.exe.
Make sure to leave the Box about "...always open with..." checked
#3) Now all you have to do, is doubleklick the Sims2Pack and the PackageInstaller unpacks it into the correct directory, depending on YOUR installation...no more searching for the correct path via Sims2Pack Clean Installer etc.
Once your done with Castaway Stories, you can reverse the process and re-tie the extension Sims2Pack back to the Sims2Pack Clean Installer;)

5  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / How do i package a sim on: November 09, 2007, 08:20:11 am
Just open Bodyshop (the most recent one you have), go to BuildSims, Package Sims then pick the Sim in Question and click on the little package symbol
Bottom right underneath the Sim pictures.
As for packaging and deleting unused Sims:
I don't believe you would gain any performance boost from that.
You would be more lucky if you cut down on your CC (and even that mainly affects the loading time)

I wouldn't do a total wipe and re-install (with all the pains to d/l the correct patches). If you have everything saved just delete the complete hoods you don't play anymore (and all caches: Accessory.cache, Groups.cache + cigen.package )!. That should get you there.
But as I said...don't expect any major performance boost.
You can try it out before you delete anything:
Just rename (or move) the following folders:
Downloads and in "Neighborhoods" all N00x Foldes except the one you're playing.
Start up the game and see how it reacts.

6  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Seasons with Vista on: November 02, 2007, 09:58:46 am
I really don't like Vista (I was just too lazy to reformat the drive on my brand spanking new machine) but I've never experienced any kind of those weird behaviours.
I installed the basegame, pets, seasons and BV. Only when I started sims the 1st time, Vista told me that Sims 2 is not compatible and sent me to EA to d/l an upgrade patch.
So now all what's left  is the annoyance to move all downloads (because all the good programs like RoboMaid, Cleaninstaller, Download Organizer etc. install/work on the Files in the Admin account/EA Folders.
And since I refuse to run any game as admin, no CC shows up until I copy/move the stuff into my accounts Download folder
(Still being lazy I use a directory Sync program for that...of course resulting in having all CC 2x on my computer, which is no big deal on a 500 GB Harddrive and works as a convenient backup Cheesy
Not that this is very helpful for you...but I suspect some kind of messagebox popping up which is covered by the Game's screen. and of course the comp waits for any input before continuing its work (otherwise you most certainly would get a crash/no response - Screen.
Try to run the game in a window for once, so you would see any popup boxes.

If you don't mind I'm gonna use this as my avatar
