77  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: what happened to Mod The Sims website? on: August 11, 2010, 10:15:59 pm
Has anyone with the problem tried clearing their DNS cache like mentioned in the second half of this post?  I've had this issue before with not only the booty, but MTSN for a day or so, and doing that helped get me back on both.

If that doesn't work still, I do believe Delphy mentioned either using an alternate proxy address or using Google Public DNS to access the site.

Double post merged.  Please be sure not to reply to yourself, and use the "Modify" option at the upper right of your post.

Also, a link to the hair in question would also be helpful, since there are always people out there who are looking for the same exact item you are looking for, too.  If it's a pay item, please be sure to link to the original source and the file-sharing alternative link it can be found at.

Please remember, next time you post a link to any donation item,  you also need to be able to provide a link where someone can find this for free as a requirement for keeping your thread up.  As the sticky states:

If you're going to pitch a pay site's goods in a WCIF reply, you'd best be providing the link to the Booty or another free site alternative as well, or risk the deletion of your reply. Same goes for the Booty. If you're going to toss that out there then you had best link to the original creator, as well. Fair is fair.

Here is the booty link. (File Name:  rosedonate_0094)

Alternate:  Sims Cave (Registration Required)

By the way, if anyone does have trouble accessing the booty at any given time, you may need to clear your internet browser cache and flush your DNS cache.  (This method also helps for any other web page you may suddenly have issues accessing.)  Usually having old cache files can prevent you from viewing a web page properly.  You should be able to clear the browser's cache through whatever Tools/Option menus it may have, but the DNS cache is a little different.  Here's a few links on how to do a DNS flush:

PC:  XP or Vista/Windows 7

Mac:  OS X or OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Inge's downloads are actually located elsewhere from the old SimLogical domain.  The no balloons patch is located here, although if you have any EPs installed that are later than NL, I would highly suggest not using it.  You'd risk some strange/unwanted errors in your game if you install non-compatible hacks.  Smiley
81  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Re: Where can I find "No Headlines" Mod? on: August 06, 2010, 07:54:35 am
A userstartup.cheat line to make disabling speech/thought bubbles automatically happen is not possible.  The game always re-enables the code upon loading.  The only thing I can suggest is to make an aliased cheat to make it quicker for you to disable them.

However, there is a "no balloons" mod made by Inge, but it's only compatible up to NL.  (...since OFB was the first EP to introduce the headlines cheat, she saw no need for redundancy.)  Unless someone is willing to make a mod that prevents them up to your latest EP, there doesn't seem to be any other mods out there that disable them, other than using the cheat mentioned.

Doesn't Squinge have one called, Stop Screaming At Me, or something like that?

Now that you mention it...  Took me a while to find it, since I was looking under the EP subsections instead of the main one.  Cheesy

Check under the directory for your latest EP, then look under "hacks".  You're going to want to check for the file noroutefail.zip.  There's also dontwaveatme.zip (if you don't like the random motive distress animations) and lesswhiny.zip (for when you hate to see them whine over loosing an object you've recently deleted).  Smiley

I know what you mean about capital letters and I am used to not capitalizing because no other forums have minded (I have been on a lot of forums too. this is the internet after all and not college. actually to be honest you should see some of the people that post discussion questions for online college. sometimes they don't capitalize and they can have major typos. once in a while there has even been instructors that have typos. pretty funny if you ask me)

As true as that may be (since I've witnessed it a lot last semester), the internet excuse is really starting to take it's toll.  I'm glad that you're able to type coherently overall, but there's nothing wrong with at least making an effort to capitalize the first letter of a sentence.  Usually, we can understand the occasional slip-up, since it happens to everyone, but to type something incorrectly just because it's the internet seems to be trying to take the lazy way out, just like Paden mentioned.  It's a forum, so it's not like someone has a gun to anyone's head and telling them to post as is or else.   Believe me, one should have plenty of time to check through before hitting the "Post" button.  Grin

To be honest, I have horrible eyesight, so some of the things that help me differentiate sentences in paragraphs and block posts are the capital letters in the beginning in each one.  I know a few other people who also have the same problem here, so it's pretty difficult to even read certain posts that lack proper capitals and/or punctuation.  That's partially why we've included the rule in the first place... to make it easier for everyone to read posts and not miss the concept that the poster is presenting.  That way, there are no hints of miscommunication either.

Where were you when I was most likely not using capital letters every time in 07 on the old site?

With all due respect, that was the old site.  Wink  The rules have since been modified, and we have asked for everyone, old and new, to review them and follow through.  All that the staff here requests of everyone is to at least make an effort to do so.  No harm in that, right?

Do you have a screenshot of the outfit?  Someone might be able to tell you exactly which file it is and how to disable it if we can see it.  Smiley

You're welcome.  And thanks not only for the compliment, but for fixing the image also.  Cheesy

I don't think it's 100% fair that all of my posts were deleted because I have a difference of opinion

Would you care to clarify?  From what I'm seeing, all of the posts you have thus far are still visible.  No one here deletes posts due to difference of opinion.  Unless there was harassing remarks towards others in the deleted posts that you're talking about, I can assure you no one "censors" other people for something as inane as an opposing view on something.

As for the topic at hand, Sims 2 all the way.   cool  Even though I'm having issues with running Sims 2 now, I do enjoy playing it whenever I can.  I just need a better computer to run it on/handle my CC obsession.   tongue

Hi.  Smiley *breaks out the shameless plug*

The old topic those baggy cargos used to be in kind of disappeared when Gothplague left the site (since they were originally a retexture of her mesh that I posted in her guest recolors section).  I think I still have the originals, but I think you may like the newer versions a little better.  (Although the pictures give them little justice... that, and I'll probably be reworking the textures for those pretty soon, too.)   I have them plus the edited meshes for the other age groups and males available here.

For the original mesh and texture by Gothplague, check out her site.

Also, for future reference, please refrain from hotlinking other people's images.  That is bandwidth theft, and we do not condone that.  Please read this sticky carefully for further clarification.

90  Simmers' Paradise / Where Can I Find...? / Re: WCIF a table to match this desk and chair? on: July 24, 2010, 06:13:05 am
Nonni, please be careful how you link to different items.  Even if the image link is not surrounded by tags, posting a direct link to the original image is still considered hotlinking.

Since you already have the originals saved to your image account, the rest of the post is fine, but just thought I'd give you the reason why those links had to go.  If you still want to credit Piggi for those pictures, you can post a link to the homepage of the site instead of direct links to the pictures.  Wink
