Oh folks, first of all I am very grateful to all of your discussion about the Sims 3.  I had asked this question a while back because I grew rather worried about the changes that might occur when the new game is released.

And from Beos and the rest who have contributed to this thread, it seems rather grim.  When I saw the trailers and the previews afforded to the game (by virtue of You Tube and elsewhere), I admit I was rather curious about how our simmies might "come alive".  But now that I've seen EA's preview page for TS3, I am more disgusted.

The skins, for one are awful.  And even though it might be neat to custom make a house according to design, it still doesn't allow that same type of freedom that we have during TS2.  Instead, it's as if our little Simmies will be shaped and molded by the evil hand of EAxis. Sad

That makes me very sad.  We have a vibrant community filled with great, talented and wonderful people.  And the EA Fascists know that if anything if they want their game to stay popular, it depends on the fans who play it (and not only the kids and the teens, but the adults too).

What is even worse is the fact that it leaves the Mac people (which I am one) out in the dust.  What are we to do?  Are we going to passed by while the PC people get to try the game first?  And what does Aspyr going to do about the new game?

You see, these are things that have been bugging me.  And I, for one, have been reading what Beos has said in his blog.  I've thought really hard about the corruption that is going on.  EAxis has destroyed not only the heart of the game (which was really quaint in TS1), they've also destroyed the playability as well.  And TS3 only amounts to an empty shell.

Even though I have an open mind about the future and will hope for the best, what I'm seeing doesn't quell my worry a little bit.  Instead, if everything is going to be tied up to an "Exchange-type" system, it's time to throw in the towel.

I love my neighborhoods (despite the bugs, hacks and other little things I put in the game).  I love the fact that I can have a diversity of body sizes (via Warlokk, Marvine, Beos and others).  And I love the differences in hair, make-up, skins and other accoutrements that make the Sims2 playing worthwhile.  If I can't have those things, then TS3 will not be on my wish list for future play.

In fact, it makes me rather sick what EA has done to a beautiful game which stood out apart from the war-like or other strategy games.  I like the sociological and psychological aspects of it because you could try out a whole bunch of different scenarios to rear your neighborhood.  Now, if they make it  soulless in the next version, what in the heck are we going to have left?

Just my .02.  Keep on fighting the good fight. Smiley

Summersong and kaneonapua, thank you very much for your answers.

I also apologize for taking a little longer to answer you back. Sad

But, I am very glad to hear from others who have been thinking about this.  From what I've read, I've been totally dismayed about Sims 3.   And, since it will be coming this year to PC, I had wondered what you folks might have to say.

I am equally dismayed with the possibility that EA might do away with custom content (with the introduction of the stuff packs Sad ). I also am getting comfortable with TS2.  My love is building houses.  And, I am finally learning how to use the game to build things the way I want.  As a result, I'm starting to enjoy it.

Just the thought of a *new game* on top of all these "Stuff Packs" and "Expansion Packs" is very exhausting right now.  I would also hope that they would take a little bit more time. Wink

From what I've heard about TS3, not a lot of the word is good.

So, that's why I asked.

I love Sims 2 precisely because it is a game that allows you to design and watch your simmies grow throughout the generations.  I don't know if the new game (from the trailer on You Tube that I saw) will allow you to do that.  In fact, more seems to be emphasized on the "simmies being more alive" (whatever that means).

Again, you have my thanks for answering my question.  Smiley

P.S. I did take a look at the support forum, and I am horrified at all the problems! Sad

Take care,

Ceci Smiley

To the staff, mods and Admins of this wonderful site,

This question has been on my mind for a while.  However, I could not find a proper section to voice this question.  So, after remaining quiet for quite a while and pondering upon it, I've decided to break my silence and ask:

1)What is the deal with the Sims 3? Does anyone know what the primary differences will be in terms of custom content and the SimAntics behavior?

2)How will the Sims 3 affect the Community as a whole? Will sites (including yours) stay the same?

3)Since I have a mac, the Sims 3 might not come out until 2009, while PC players will have it next year.  So, for the mac folks, what are we going to do when TS3 comes out?

4)What is everyone's opinions about TS3?  I would like to hear the details about this game and how it might differ from TS2 since it already has affected the overall  Sims 2 community drastically.

If I am speaking out of turn, I apologize profusely.  I would just like to know the scuttlebutt regarding this upcoming game because the rumblings of it has already made changes affecting some sites and well regarded members in the Sims 2 Community as a whole. Sad

Thank you for allowing me to ask these questions.

Take care,

Ceci
