1  Welcome to insimenator.org / Issues & Suggestions / Re: Stop closing posts too soon... on: April 02, 2009, 01:44:58 pm
skavenhorde - we have a general discussion area where most anything goes, so it's quite within Kinnika's rights to ask in there about stuff that isn't sims related ... we could have experts in all sorts of non-sims related stuff here, you just never know till you ask Wink

If there are certain threads that you feel are being closed too quickly - and there were a few mods in the past that were guilty of being too quick in that respect - then please pm one of us. We really don't bite and are all approachable and quite open to suggestions. Nobody here is perfect, including the staff, and it may well be that occassionally we do something that, on reflection, is not in the best interests of the members.

Thanks for the info Ali. I am still catching up on just how this site works. I was just thinking that if I was a mod and saw someone linking sites to programmed television, my gut reaction would be to shut it down. IMO, it's better to er on the side of caution than get spanked later on by an unforseen circumstance.

The biggest problems facing our hobby (pc games) are pirates (I'm not talking about that other one that deals with sims content, that is a whole other can of worms that I support wholeheartily) but real pirates who steal stuff and make it available through torrents or other means and now TV shows. When exactly does this free sharing of paid products stop?

Anyways, sorry about the misunderstanding and I do realize that of course many different subjects are discussed here, just like any good site should do. I was just thinking about how people who post these sites should explain in detail about their link and why it is a legit sites. To make the poor mods job a little easier and to defuse any kind of situations that may arise or if there is some kind of rule against posting that kind of info (I don't know if there is or isn't) then that rule has to be enforced no matter if it is a legit site or not.

My 2 cents worth.

Just an outsiders opinion on a very hot topic even on my home RPG site.

I live in Taiwan, so the only Enlgish programs I get on cable are HBO and a few other movie channels. I don't mind that so much since I don't watch a lot of TV, but there are two programs I can't live without The Daily Show and Colbert Report. Thankfully Comedy Central hosts every show for free on their site, so I can watch them even from over here.

In regards to shutting down threads dealing with this, I don't think it is irresponsible to show a little caution with this subject. I mean this is a Sims 2 site and I wouldn't expect the moderators here to be an expert on TV show websites and which are legal and which are not. If you want that why not go to a forum that does deal with this subject?

Same here. Something about a teetee tree and where it is from. Me thinks somebody there has had a little too much to drink. Cheers

Funny though and great idea for April Fools.

Greetings from an American in Taiwan. I have been a long time lurker, but I thought it was high time I got off my lurker butt and actually said hi to this great community. With everything that has happened I am very proud of you guys. It was great seeing how you banded together. That is something I would not mind being a part of.

Anyways great to be here and hope I don't embarass myself too much with my lack of Sims knowledge. tongue
7  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: How will The Sims 3 affect the online community? on: April 01, 2009, 07:36:32 am
I feel pretty much the same as MaryH. The Sims2 was a major step foreward when compared to The Sims 1. Gameplay as well as graphics. The thing about The Sims 2 is it can compete graphically with today's games and imo The Sims 3. The sims 1 just can't in any way (don't bite my head off please Wink)

I'll be holding off buying it for awhile at least until some major expansion packs are released. EA's track record for the first release is that they leave A LOT out for future expansions. This is just for The Sims games. EA's record in other genres is even worse. I am a diehard CRPG player and what they have done to my beloved genre is beyond disgust. The biggest example to any RPG fan is Ultima 9.

It seems EA is finally doing to The Sims what they have done to my genre. Making as much money as possible without any regard to their customers. Seriously, is it nessary to make a "Store" like Pogo at The Sims homepage when they release tons of expansions in addition to the Stuff Packs. Worldwide they must make a ton on those little stuff packs. I live in Taiwan and it is just as popular here as it is in America or Europe. Heck, I buy my Sims games at a little tiny hobby store down the street. They basically just carry a few of the most popular shooters and every Sims 2 game/stuff pack.

Well at least The Sims 2 is still a great game when modded of course  Grin

Ok I just have to say OMG!!!

I started a thread over there at BBS asking about What is off Topic

It had like 10 posts in it. All of them civil and about getting information on what was going on and now I went to reply again and this is what I got- http://bbs.thesims2.ea.com/community/bbs/messages.php?&openItemID=item.2,item.43,item.61,item.104,item.41,item.127,item.23&threadID=0ea6ad0e2f27e770347a3734bca405d2&directoryID=2&startRow=1

I took screenshots and will post them tomorrow to show how civil this discussion was but right now I am beat. It is almost 2 am here and I have to work tomorrow.

I just wanted to say I am glad this happened in a way. It gave me a chance to come out of my lurker shell and really say hi to all of you.

Anyways thanks again for keeping this site up and for keeping us *hopefully* former lurkers informed.

Edit- They have a new warning. I hope it was not because of me because that would seriously be lame. There was not one thing wrong with those posts. Everything was civil. But if they want to turn people away from buying their new game...Then fine by me.

I see your point. maybe they are gathering info and keeping quiet for the time being. but what do we know right? what we have are hunches, we'll see what happens in two or three days. one side will definitely cave.

Not so sure about the caving part. They could deny it forever saying some mystical hacker did it. But like Delphy said that leaves the topic of the stolen content and how it magically appeared on their site.

Well, it's never a good idea to use the same password for every site you log into just on general principle. If someone figures out one, they pretty much have access to everything. Even before this happened, it wasn't considered a good idea, and this is just one reason why.

Yea I knew that. I was just too stupid to think that something like this could happen or that I was too low off the radar for anyone to care about. Anyways...thanks for giving me a swift kick in the butt to stop being so naive  Wink

I just got done changing everything. Man there are a lot of sites that I go to with the same name and password. Gotta change the way I do that.

Thanks a bunch TSR...

I have been a looonnngg time lurker at both modthesims2 and here (well sorta here if you know what I mean. I am still shocked at what happened to the other site that is not there anymore) My name was skaven510 but I could not register that.

I just want to say that I can not believe what is going on or that TSR was actually tweaking their downloads to mess with your game and spy on you. Now their hacking into other sites. This is beyond insane...it is like entering the twilight zone.

Anyways I thought I would add my 2 cents worth and say that I agree with you guys 110%.

I have a couple of questions if you do not mind answering that is related to TSR. Is it true that they are getting the tools to mod TS3 and no one else?

This one is a bit off topic but what is up with the STORE at The Sims 2 site? Is this a preview of things to come? The only way to get custom content is either through their Pogo like store or TSR?
