Tenshii and EKoszki thank you for your help. I tried the link for Enge's mod but, apparently, it's gone because the page wouldn't come up for me.

I did, however, follow your advice and make a user cheat sheet with the abbreviations and it does make things easier so I want to thank you both for your help, it's much appreciated.

I did look around in the UserProps file and noted that much of what is listed there is very similar to what is written in the usercheats file and it looks to me that it would be relatively easy to write/add a userprop that would turn off headlines/speech bubbles except for one baffling mystery: Namely, what appear to be GUID listings in the strings.
Example:<AnyBooleankey="edgeScrolling"type="0xcba908e1">false</AnyBoolean>
I'm thinking that, if there were some way to open such a file in SimPE then I might be able to find a way to identify a particular GUID or whatever that code is and then write one that  would allow me to put a no-headlines string in userprops
file. Until then I'll be happy with what I have.

A Small Update..

Hi, again, Tenshii.

Funny you should mention the no-balloons mod because once I knew what the file name actually was I had little trouble finding it on several sites. Unfortunately, as you mentioned in your last post, none of them were updated beyond night life but, at the time, I didn't know that and none of the people hosting the file on their sites mentioned that the file was obsolete so, naturally, it didn't work.

However, the file did come in handy because I found the GUID and was able to use that to try an experiment with my userprops file. I added a load line in the userprops (anyboolian section) to see if it  would prevent the balloons from coming up. It didn't hurt the game at all, it just didn't work but I think I'm on the right track for making a no-balloons mod now. I'll keep trying and write back to you to let you know if it works or not.

I appreciate your help but you misunderstood what I meant.

What I'm looking for is a mod or a hack or a line to add to my userstartup.cheat
that will do that automatically, just like the mod that I have that automatically removes Sim's plumb bobs when I open a lot

Hi, everyone!

I'm looking for a mod that automatically turns off the headlines (thought/speech balloons) in Sims 2. I've just spent weeks looking for such a thing and can't find it.

I have mods that turn off the plumb bobs, the megabobs in neighborhood view and lots of others but the one that turns off the headlines is the one I need most.

If there is no such thing at present and someone knows how to do it then could you please respond with instructions on how to do it in SimPE, which file to edit, which properties, and etc.? I'd be very grateful for any and all help.

Bloom!! You're AWESOME!! I followed your instructions re: clone/recolor and it worked perfectly and, yes, you were quite correct about the unchanged GUID number so I changed that and all is well! The recolor worked out perfectly and I now have an all black chopper clone with which I shall make recolors.

Oh.. By the way and just so you'll know and as it turns out I didn't have to arrange the object ID numbers one by one, which is a blessing because it saves a step. Apparently the last version of SimPE does that automatically.

Thanks again so much for your help. You've really made my day and you shall be my favoritest bestest hero and my best friend for a WHOLE week! Wink

Hi. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry about the misspelling confusion earlier. It was supposed to be D500, not DX500 (I was thinking of the Hughs DX500UAC-A Police Urban Persuit aircraft at the time, which is what I want to recolor this object to resemble)

First, The Matte1 and Matte2 files don't show up in a simple recolor in SimPE (as I now know): They show up only when the object is cloned either as a slaved clone of the original object or as a stand-alone cloned object so, no, I didn't find the matte files at all when I did a simple recolor of the object.

However, when I cloned the object all the TXTR files showed up in the Texture Image (TXTR 10) file list.

To answer the second part of your question: Once having found the files I edited them to remove the text (ergo: exported the TXTR files to a temporary folder, edited them in my graphics program, ran "build DXT" (which I don't think was the correct way to do it) and then clicked commit/save as I would with any other basic recolor.

This obviously was not the correct proceedure since it didn't work.

So, now, the question remains: *What*, exactly (step by step if possible) do I *do* with these files (how do I edit and import them so they do what I wish)?

If you have no answer to this then, perhaps, you could direct me to a step by step tutorial that would show me how to do it? (Unfortunately, and after a great deal of searching) I have yet to find a tutorial on effectively editing matte files in objects.

Bloom!! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! your stuff!! Sorry you're moving on from Sims 2. I'll miss you TONS! (No, I don't play Sims 3.. Yet. LOL!  I'm waiting, waiting, waiting.. Until such time as there's as much stuff for sims 3 as there is for Sims 2 but, probably, by that time, there'll be a Sims 4 that everyone'll be moving on to! ACK! LOL!)

Hi. I just recently figured out how to successfully recolor objects but I've run into a mystery: Namely, I want to recolor Trezilla's Hughs DX 500 Helicopter with Police Helicopter colors for use in my game but there's text on the side of the 'copter that says "Simcity Tours" and, no matter what I've done, I can't get rid of it and I can't figure out which file in the package contains that text so it can be changed.

Btw.. I'm using the latest version of SimPE.

So, Which file do I open to change that, how to I extract the necessary item and how do I import it back into the recolored package?

I'm assuming that, like recoloring an item with one texture it would be a very easy process once understood.

Other than being here at the moment, I'm working on production of a graphic "novel" (Who knows if it'll be novel length or not?). It's intended to be part of a series called Strangetown Tales, the first story being "A Stranger In Strangetown".

I must say that I'm having a total blast using my Sims 2 game to produce such a thing but I also have to admit that it's as much work  as working on an actual (read that "live"/for real) movie lot with set construction and arrangement, actor placement and scene shooting. Still, in spite of all of the work it's a lot more fun than working with live actors since Sims are a whole lot lesstemperamental than live actors! LOL!!

Hi everyone. First I'd like to say thanks for having an absolutely AWESOME site! You have some truly great stuff and thanks for being here, I surely appreciate it.

First,  I have all the Sims 2 EPs up to Apartment Life and the Mansions And Gardens Stuff pack.

Now, here's my problem: I recently downloaded and installed the Girls-Only Gnome, The Controller Bouquet, Strap-On Fun and a couple of the Strap On Recolors (From another site, of course. I posted this same basic message there as well.)

I'm using Amour Queen as my AF Default mesh and Classic Princess as my default Teen mesh. I also have Booty Girl installed.

Things work fine when it's two women having, well.. You know, but, if two are having 69 and a third "Joins In" then the skin for the third "Joiner" turns into the default Snow Bunny outfit instead of a nude skin with a strap-on.

This problem doesn't affect male Sims at all.

I attempted to solve the problem by removing all custom content and then slowly putting back and testing each one to try to find out which one is faulty and that's how I came to discover it was the Strap-On Fun in combination with the Girls-Only Gnome that was part of the problem but, certainly, not all of it.

Since it's a Snow Bunny Suite showing up instead of a nude wearing a Strap On I know the necessary meshes are there but a vital texture is obviously missing. The problem is I simply can't figure out for the life of me which texture it is.

Oh, and, yes! I did download and install the necessary Warlokk Heels Sets as was called for  and all necessary items are in place save for the one I can't figure out is missing.

Also, I did a "Testingcheatsenabled True" force-error test and got a log file while the "Join In" process was going on. The log file is attached.

Any help I could get in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated and I'd be most thankful.
