My sims wear those skates from the Box Of Skates but in a Sim Day they disappear without them being taken off. What could be causing that? Just wondering.

Should I patch my Sims 2 Games and is any of the patches compatible with Windows 7? I keep getting incompatible application when I would run the compatibly troubleshooter. Has anyone encountered that? Just curious.
