1  Resident Creators / EP3 Mods / EP3 Required call any sim without perk on: May 19, 2007, 04:55:40 am
Thanks Squinge, although I wish it had been made to act like that college calling command: Call/College/Directory.

That form was highly useful since it only listed everyone on the campus segment when needed.  I have used that form many times with students when I wanted to add another friend and didn't have a contact that I wanted to use.  Of course that form might not be practical outside of the campus area map.  Infact to be honest I have wondered why Maxis didn't use that format for the business perk in first place.  If the character is already known then you don't have to look them up.

But regardless I will utilize this mod as well as many others which I have failed to thank you for.

I forgot to mention I even went to the extent of removing all business related hacks for the testing procedure as well then plugged them back in one at the time.  I figured that was the basic process of elimination at least.

While I am in testing mode, I am going to do a complete re-install without the pets patch, see if that is really the culprit or if I have to keep looking.  I have backed up my neighborhood for this purpose, but a realistic test might take me a couple of days or so.

Looks like it's time to make the Hotel California. :-)

Sounds like a plan to me.  Although I see I goofed and didn't state my simple policy for sharing my work.  So I will do it here as well as amending the first post:

1: If its a free download, include it in your lots as you feel like it.
2: A link back to where you found the object would be appreciated.
3: Above all else enjoy the game as much as possible.

I have just completed extracting and initial testing of all the gates except for one (which didn't want to extract) from the following Basegame, University, Nightlife, Glamour and Pets.

I hope you will find them useful.  But please understand its still early yet and even if the lessons learned from the doors made this much faster than I thought, there is still a chance they might not work in your game.  Although I think if you have original doors already, they should work fine, since they use the same meshes but totally different GUID's.

Please let me know what you think of this latest addition to the oneway series.

I appologize for the poor scenery in the pictures, but I am lousy at picking sites and such for pictures.  But hopefully they will at least give a good indication of what is available.

Doc Holladay

I see I goofed and didn't state my simple formula for including objects in your uploaded lots they are very simple and even if I forget to state them, they apply to anything I do.

1: If its a free download lot, feel free to use it as you like.
2: A link back to where you obtained the object would be nice.
3: Above all else enjoy the game as much as you can.

Monday April 16

Finally and probably most importantly, since as far as I know I have no programs to allow me to edit meshes so these oneway gates and the doors in my other threads are decently sized, if anyone is capable and wants to do that.  Please do just let me know so I can check them out then I will gladly remove the matching door or gate from my threads and give a link to yours.  My only real request in this regards is that you at least keep them free.

all versions of this seem to be broken by the latest patch from Maxis.  Had missing manager so tested all possible combinations of your checkinshop and the Missingmanagerfix by Pescadero at MATY.

All possible combinations (including running one at the time) failed except the missingmanagerfix.

I even ran without the missingmanagerfix and had the old "your business doesn't have a manager" response. (I had removed checkinshopfaster also for this test.)

Sorry to add to your headaches but I sure miss being able to have my sim check in faster.  In the test with missingmanagerfix only it took him almost 4 sim hours to check one shop.  Way too long.

April 3:  I was just notified that I have failed to state my policies for including in uploaded lots.  Well the policy is very simple has only 3 basic points:

1: As long as it is going to be a free download, upload as you wish.
2: Please link back to the thread where you found the doors used.
3: Last and most importantly Enjoy the game as much as possible.

---------------------------------------------

I have managed to expand the oneway door selection a good bit by adding the doors from the following ep's and stuff pack:
University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Glamour Life and Pets.

Each door is packed separately so you can pick and choose the ones you want to utilize in your neighborhoods.

If you haven't looked at the previous set they are available here: http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=30958

For this set I can't completely say which doors came with which ep or the glamour life pack since some of them seemed to be common between them when I extracted them with SimPe.

So for now the best I can say about the usage of them is if you don't have the original door from Maxis in your game, you probably will not be able to use a particular door.

As far as my testing has shown all the original Maxis colors are available, as for recolors done for those doors I just don't know at this time since I don't have any on hand to test with.  CEP should of course be available just as a standard however in my opinion for the game anyway.

I have tried to keep both the doors and filenames as close to the original door name as I could, but I am kind of dumb at times so some won't match exactly in the naming I used.

Please let me know how you like them.  I will be adding each door here along with some pictures I took mainly utilizing one community lot building.  The single doors I setup as double doors in the pictures to show a possible usage for traffic control purposes.

The building I used is one I like for a car dealership for one of my sims.  Great income, but I can't upload or share that building even if asked.  I downloaded the original building from MTS2 and although its been totally gutted and changed its still not my work, so I won't share that lot.

I need to express a special thanks to Inge Jones for telling me that I could do these doors using her work as a  guideline.  I do admit I took one of her BHAV's since I had no idea of how to create it.
Also a special thanks to the creators of SimPe and CEP for such great tools.
An extra special thanks has to go to all the great folks who have encouraged me to do this and in the case of Kathy for one kept an eye on my doors for a while after my mother passed away.

And as always any mistakes are mine, not the people who told me I could do it and/or provided guidance along the way.

Doc Holladay

Pictures reposted now so should show up properly in browsers.  If not each picture is included as a bmp format in the download files.

Well hopefully the set I just uploaded will work properly now, I do admit I had to go back to basics on them however.  All original colors work but I couldn't reduce the file sizes or include recolors like I wanted.  So that does leave room for improvements later on however.

But for now all the doors should work properly in all versions of the game since all of these doors came from the base game.  I will probably take a look at the ep's I have now one at the time and get those doors ready to work on as well in the near future.  Although like these I will only do one ep at the time to make things simpler.

Doc

Doors are finished in this set.  Now for some other doors as soon as I can get to them.  I have the following EP's and stuff packs:  University, NightLife, Open for Business, Glamour and Pets.
However so far from my extractions of those, some doors seem to be common between them which is causing me to try and guess just which doors go with which EP or Glamour.  So until I figure that out I will probably delay doing too much with those doors.

I appologize for not keeping a closer eye on this over the past few weeks, but my mother died about the middle of the month and everything was just placed on hold during this time period.  Family came first.  But I am now back and will get back to work on this mod as quickly as possible.

A special thanks has to be given to kathy for her kindness in keeping an eye on this forum during the past few weeks.

Just to clarify, my cloning policy is pretty much a no policy policy - ie do what you want with my stuff Cheesy  Already several people have taken on the task of updating and developing my old hacks.

Thankfully so far I have limited my usage to the extracting of one of your bhav functions and your great advice on what to look at.  Thanks to your hints I have greatly reduced the sizes so far and hopefully will figure out the colors issue with a little more research.  But for the past week or more my time has been pretty much tied up with my mother's health problems.

Anyone who has downloaded in past probably should redownload since file sizes have been greatly reduced as of today's upload.  I regret to have to tell everyone, I am still unable to get other colors to be available.

Doc, great work on this project. I too use Inge's doors/arches, and am always on the lookout for more, because whilst Inge's fantastic work is undeniable, its lack of numerous door/arch-types is a constant niggle... so I thank and applaud you for giving us new doors. Cheesy

May I ask if you intend to make any more hacked doors? Indeed, do you have Inge's permission to apply/amend coding for others?

In any case, many thanks for these.

Cheers,
Adam.

Thanks for the good words Adam, I am sorry to say she just pointed me in this direction when I asked for a hacked oneway door/arch.  She hasn't given me permission to do anything to her doors or arches.

I have been thinking after I learn how to make the other colors and/or recolors work on these doors I will primarily work on them for a while.  Then I will try and do each of the ep's doors as matching sets.  For right now getting them to use the other colors already available has me clawing my hair out.

I am thinking of at least one other game object I want to work with however. For now I will keep that idea for a surprise.

Very cool! Thanks!

The thanks are for you and everyone else who have helped me along the way.  To be honest it started out as just one door then I messed up the first and had to start over. Said what the heck and did them all.

I just hope they are useful to some of the nice folks on this site as well as MTS.

Okay I had to fall back to basics when I finally got free from some of the family problems.  All the doors have been redone and at least the original colors now show up.  All new GUID's as well for each of the doors so there shouldn't be any conflicts between these and the original sets, although I would highly recommend those be deleted.

Wednesday March 21:  I am removing the bidirectional and twoway doors for now, since there seems to be a problem, they are only working as oneway doors. Those doors are available anyway as oneway, so until I figure out that problem and fix it, I am temporarily removing those doors.

I will probably just do those as a separate thread when I have fixed them unless the kind folks here at the InSIMenator net want me to keep this as one thread.

Hopefully this is only a temporary setback for those features as I really like that capability for the double doors, both in residences and in community lots.

I just got through cloning and hacking the basegame doors to work as oneway doors for all the basegame doors except the bathroom doors.

I also cloned and hacked all the doubledoors to work as half and half doors.

Doc

Here you go Kathy and for all the rest of the great folks here as well:

First set: Oneway doors.rar
All of these doors are oneway, in otherwords the sims will only pass through them in one direction. The arrow seen during installation will show the path they will go in.

Second set: HalfandHalf doors.rar
All of these doors are double doors with one door allowing the sims to enter and the other door allowing them to exit.

As far as I know recolors may or may not work even though I tried to link to original maxis meshes. All the doors according to the great tutorial by numenor are basegame compliant. But since I have all eps plus glamour there is always a chance they will fail.

None of this would have been possible without first and most importantly:
inge for pointing me at her "Oneway Arch" as well as suggesting how it might be possible to do the doors that way as well. Since this effort is based around that help, any credit for the results belong to her. Blame belongs to me only.

And of course a special thank you goes out to all the folks at MTS2 who have talked with me throughout this process. Again credit to them and blame to me for any mistakes.

Please test them.

Report 1.1: Removed halfandhalf Wachout door since that is a sliding door so probably will not work. Rest of halfandhalf doors look like they should work. I just used 2 on one lot with Danny's woohoo girls setup to draw sims in and out of lot so I could observe a couple of the doors in usage.

Recolors I don't think will work at this time and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to fix that little bit from anyone.

2: Reduced file sizes across the board, but after comparing file sizes between one of them and one of inge's door's, I see I still have a way to go on that score the comparison still shows me with about 3-4 times her file sizes. Additional colors still not showing up however yet.

3: Further reduced file sizes across the board. Still unable to get the doors to use more than one color each yet.  I am still trying to figure that part out.  But as an indication of how much has been done so far I am giving a size comparison of the difference in very rough numbers.

Old file sizes compressed: Oneway doors.rar 1.53 Mb
                                       halfandhalf doors.rar 653.8kb
new file sizes compressed: oneway doors.rar 291.3kb
                                         halfandhalf doors.rar 114.6kb
