16  Resident Creators / Squinge's Mods / In Testing:college Interactions on any lot new version available(4/14/06) on: October 22, 2006, 11:24:29 am
My problem with students not being able to go to class has been unexpectedly solved by Pets!  I took the Insimenator out of my game because it hasn't been updated for Pets yet.  Then I was clueless on how to age a teen to a YA without it, so I came here and downloaded Squinge's teens age to YA without going to college hack.  When Alexander Goth aged to a YA with that hack, the next thing I knew, he was going off to class!  So it seems that aging them any other way besides with Squinge's hack doesn't work right with the college interactions on any lot hack.  But the two hacks together make the whole college at home thing work perfectly.  Yeah! Smiley

Do we have the status yet on the Saturday missed work issue?

I haven't been able to fix it yet, however, it seems to be pretty harmless.  You go to work Friday and are told you missed work Saturday.  If you actually DO miss work Friday, you don't get a warning for that, but you will Saturday.  So it seems impossible to miss two days in a row, so you can't get fired.  And you'll get paid if you go to work Friday, you won't get paid if you don't, as you'd expect.  So it's an annoyance, and if I ever figure out how to fix it I will, but until then it doesn't do any harm.

There's also a rumour that custom careers don't work with Pets, and I'm trying to figure that out myself.  This rumour comes up with EVERY expansion pack and it's never been true before, but I personally do have a problem with the carpools not showing up for pets with jobs, so I'm beginning to wonder.

EDIT: I discovered my problem with pet carpools was caused by Simlogical's Instition Sign.  There may be other hacks that cause the problem as well, however, as far as I can tell custom careers DO work with the Pets EP.

This is another case of Why were Sims so stupid until Squinge gave them a brain. Smiley  You're the Wizard of Oz, Squinge!
19  Resident Creators / Squinge's Mods / More Energy from Coffee on: September 28, 2006, 10:50:15 am
FABULOUS!  I have wanted this forever.  In some houses that ultra modern espresso machine just doesn't look right and you want a traditional coffee maker.  But the lowly energy gain on the coffee maker doesn't make it worth taking the time for them to drink it.  This is perfect.
20  Resident Creators / Squinge's Mods / Sit on Floor to Watch TV on: September 25, 2006, 11:01:57 am
I may have already posted in this thread but I don't care, this is quite possibly the most Non-Awesome mod ever. Smiley  The only thing that could be better than this, would be for Sims to be able to watch TV from an angle, like from a sofa that's not right in front of the TV.  I don't know if Squinge could do that, it might be up to Maxis, but next to that, sitting on the floor to watch is the next best thing and it improves things SO much.  Non-Awesome Modders Rule!

I've noticed one problem with this career.  On Saturdays the Sim will get the pop up saying they missed work that day.  I suppose this could be problematic if they ever did miss work on Friday, they could get the message in error on Saturday too and actually get fired.  I'm looking into this to see if I can fix it.
22  Resident Creators / EP3 Mods / EP3 required:No more screaming by locked doors or gates on: September 19, 2006, 03:20:35 pm
I'm afraid this isn't working for me either, I have Sims still wanting to use objects that are behind locked doors.  I think I'll run the conflict program to see if there's a conflict.  Can I post the results for you to look at, Squinge?

I just opened this thread for the first time - I thought "Euro Kiss" was a new politically correct term for French Kiss.  LOL!

noroutefail doesn't seem to be working for me anymore and I don't think it's been updated for a long time.  Will this file work better?  And does it actually stop Sims from even knowing there is anything behind a locked door, or does it just stop the tantrums?  Lately my Sims are very aware that there are things they want behind locked doors, and they just stand there and keeping getting thought balloons of whatever it is they can't get to.

Social Security Recipient "Career"

EP Compatible
Won't overwite any other careers
For adults, teens and elders.
Custom icon.
No chance cards (because you only go to "work" for an hour a week to pick up your check.)
One level, no promotions, demotions, etc.

What this career does:

Ever want a welfare Sim?  Well now you can have one.  Available for adults, teens or elder, with teens and elders getting a little less money than adults (because teens should get less and elders might be also earning a pension in retirement.)  I wasn't sure what kind of income this career should have and I wound up doing it this way: Social Security in the U.S. is supposed to give you enough money to cover your basic needs, and in some cases a little more than that.  In real life it depends on how much money other people in your household are making.  Since there's no way to factor that in in the Sims, I decided to take the lowest paying jobs in the game (dishwasher and golf caddy), and make this pay a bit less than those. Those two jobs pay 126 a day five days a week, a weekly total of 630.  So the Social Security Recipients get 600 a week.  Teens/Elders get 450.  The "job" requires to going to work on Friday mornings to get your check, from 8 (carpool time) to 10.  Teens/Elders 4-6.

Because this is a career, you can't have it and another career at the same time; however, you can have it and be retired, or you can have it and own a business.  College Students are limited of course so they can't have this unless you're using a hack that lets them have a career.  And just like my Self-Emplyed and Unemployed careers, you'll get the "Dina has the day off!" pop up every day (except Friday.)

The custom icon was made by me and is loosely based on the United States Social Security Administration logo (very loosely!)

This career ill appear in the regular job listings like any other career, or you can assign it with the Insimenator or Monique's computer, etc.

Enjoy!

Could somebody who has this working post step by step instructions on how to get a teenager through college at home (assuming this is actually possible?)  I'll explain what I did, what did and didn't work.  I had this mod installed and I picked up the downloadable Semester Tester at MTS2 and put it in the house.

1) Changed teen to young adult instantly with the Insimenator Temporal Adjuster.

2) Went to computer and chose major.

3) Started class with the Semester Tester.

4) My student could NOT go to class, autonomously or otherwise.  There were no college options when I clicked on the Sim except "do assignment."  However, not being able to attend class didn't seem to do any harm.

5) I had them do research, write term paper, and do assignments periodically during the 72 hour semester so their grade was at least in the white range.

6) When it got to final time, same as going to class, they couldn't go.  The clock would eventually tick to -2 hours and still read "Final Exam in Progress."  This is where I was stuck.

7) Used the Semester Tester to switch them to the next semester.  This didn't seem to work.  So I went with Twojeffs College Adjuster (I think that's what it's called, it's a stack of phone books.)  That did the trick.

8 ) Graduation - discovered that hitting "Graduate" immediately maxes all their skills. :!:    I don't want that, so I quit without saving, then went back and tried "Graduated" (past tense.)  That gave them a diploma and left their skills where they were.

9) Changed student to Adult instantly with the Temporal Adjuster (a birthday didn't work - it took them straight to elder.)

So it works, but not perfectly.  I don't know why my Sims can't go to class, but I really don't mind because the idea is that they're taking a college correspondence course or something so they wouldn't actually be going to class anyway.   But I'd like the transition from semester to semester to be smoother.  I'm considering not even using the Semester Tester and just using Twojeff's hack to put them wherever I want them semester wise.

Anyway I was just wondering if anybody who has this really working right could post how they do it.  I probably have a hack conflict or something that's causing my students not to be able to go to class.

Oh also, with this they can be a college student AND have a job.  The only problem is their job data panel doesn't show up.  But the carpool will come and the job works normally.

Edited to Add:  After reading the previous post I'll note, I did have aging ON in the household. Smiley

You know this is something I'd always meant to request but I kept forgetting.  Smiley  I just hate Maxis's thinking on this.  If a Sim throws a birthday party for a family member their friends should come if even they don't happen to be friends with the person who made the phone call.  Good going Squinge!
