1  Retired Creators / Voluptuous / Simple Recolors for the Voluptuous Woman on: January 31, 2008, 02:42:04 am
I made a few recolors of the outfits for Warlokk's wonderful new Voluptuous woman, and I'm uploading them, just in case anybody else would like to use them, too.  Of course you need Warlokk's meshes in order to use these; you can find them at http://www.insimenator.org/showthread.php?t=72300

Thanks to Warlokk for making us a new gal to play with!

Since the one skintone we have for the new gal is fairly dark, that means that she can carry off much brighter colors than most pale folks can, so most of the recolors I've made are either red or purple.  I did add a few pastels, just because I like them, and one white formal so that she can be properly dressed if we marry her off.

Since there's so little for the Voluptuous woman at present, I set the swimsuit and undies to be usable for both, and I set the sundress to be usable as a nightie.  The athletic outfit is usable for everyday.

You can do anything with these that Warlokk will let you do with his stuff.  No need to credit me if you use them for anything, since everything good about them is Warlokk and everything clumsy about them is me. :-)
2  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Tourism Career on: September 17, 2007, 04:23:25 pm
Well, now that the sims can go on vacation, there must be lots of new positions open.  Somebody has to guide all those tours, take reservations, and run the whole shebang, after all.

Get your sims in on the ground floor of the new tourism industry with the Tourism Career.

This career is EP ready.  It has its own GUID, so it won't overwrite any other career.  It has a custom icon, made by me using free clip art -- you can find the world map I used at http://www.clipart.co.uk/cgi-bin/icdisplay.pl?1,maps,2

The career reward is the polygraph, since I thought a talent for creative lying might come in useful for tour guides. :-)  Although the career reward will be found under the Criminal career, this career does unlock it at the appropriate time.

There are chance cards for every level, including TWO scenarios involving llamas.  (Sorry, I couldn't resist. :-) )  I especially like the chance cards; I hope you'll enjoy them, too.  If you don't, remember that you can always hit the "ignore" button.

Lots of people like to have a list of positions, their hours and salary, and so forth.  I prefer NOT to know those things before playing a new career, since having those things be a surprise is part of the fun for me.  A list of all that follows, for those who like to know.  If you're like me, you know to start skipping ahead now. :-)

1.  Reservation Clerk      9 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $175      W R F S Su

People call you on the phone to book tours, while you take down their name and credit card number.  All day.  Every day.  Welcome to the fascinating tourism industry!

2.  Information Desk Staff      10 a.m. - 5 p.m.   $250      W R F S Su

Every place that's popular with tourists has one of these -- a place where tourists can ask questions.  72% of the questions are "Where's the bathroom?"; 23% are "Where do I park the car?"  But 5% are nearly interesting!

3.  Docent            10 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $315      T W R F S

You're still answering questions, but now you're stationed at one of the attractions, answering substantive questions about the unique natural and historical features of your attraction.  After you tell them how to find the bathroom, of course.

4.  Walking Tour Guide      10 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $395      W R F S Su

You did a good enough job answering questions and making the local attractions sound interesting to tourists that now you lead a tour!  You walk around the area with tourists, showing them the things that they should be sure to see, explaining why all of this is terribly interesting.  You still have to know where the bathroom is, though.

5.  Boat Tour Guide         10 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $475      W R F S Su

The tourists loved your walking tours, which means you get promoted.  You're finally off your feet part of the time, and the greater price and prestige of the boat tours means that your tips are larger.  On a boat, the bathroom is called the "head;" be sure you know where it is.

6.  Helicopter Tour Guide      10 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $545      W R F S Su

You're off your feet even more of the time, since standing up in a helicopter is not recommended.  You get to sit up front with the pilot, while you announce the sites and sights of natural, historical, and cultural interest.  The tourists pay a lot for the helicopter tour, so their expectations are high -- make sure you have a great joke for every site.  Oh, and there are NO bathrooms on helicopters.

7.  Personal Tour Guide      10 a.m. - 4 p.m.   $700      W R F S Su

You no longer give the same tour four times a day, five days a week!  Now you're hired by individual tourists to create specialized tours just for them.  Some want to see the historical sites, some the areas of natural beauty, some the best shopping, and a few even ask to be directed to the red light district!  Your day has more variety in it, and -- since only the wealthiest tourists can hire a personal guide -- your wallet has more money in it.

8.  Tourism Campaign Creator   9 a.m. - 3 p.m.   $805      M T W R F

You're getting a little old to be on the endless round of site after site, but your knowledge of both the local attractions and the people who visit them is invaluable.  You now work for the Tourism Board, coming up with an advertising campaign that will lure tourists (and their simoleans) to your area -- where someone ELSE can show them around.

9.  Chair of Tourism Board      9 a.m. - 5 p.m.   $945      M T W R F

Your ad campaign was so successful that your area is knee-deep in tourists.  Everybody's happy about that, because your area is also knee-deep in simoleans.  Only you can guide the Tourism Board to be even greater!

10.  Play, and find out :-)      10 a.m. - 2 p.m.   $1185      W R F

This is the first career I've ever made.  I've tested it in my game, and it works fine for me.  If it doesn't work fine for you, please let me know.

I have all of the EP's installed except for OFB (I somehow managed to misplace that disk), but since this career was made from a base game career, I'm hoping that it's compatible with the base game.

Thanks to Superfly for his great tutorials, Bidou for the fabulous career editor, and the creators of SimPE.  Anything right is probably due to them; anything wrong is probably due to me. :-)
3  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Why do the townies in the "Far East" NOT look Asian? on: September 09, 2007, 04:58:13 pm
I took my sims on vacation to what the game describes as the Far East.  The decor is all Asian, and we have tea ceremonies, tai chi, zen gardens, and so on.  Clearly, we're supposed to be in Asia.*

Then we have the people who inhabit the place, who seem to be the usual assortment of townies (not the SAME townies, but the usual variety of types).  There are just not this many blondes and redheads in Asia!  It looks really weird to see all these blonde, blue-eyed people running around in kimonos.  If Maxis was going to make an Asian locale, WHY didn't they make some Asian people to go with it?

I've been using Christianlov's hacked clothes rack to bring the townies in and at least give them straight black hair.  But there are still an awful lot of blue-eyed Asians and African-skinned Asians running around.  I find that it really undermines the whole feel of the Asian locale!

*What's in the version of this EP that's being sold in Asia?  Did EA make a different third locale for them, or are they being sold a vacation at home?
4  Retired Creators / Rio / Rio Sundress Recolors on: June 02, 2007, 06:13:43 pm
I made some simple recolors of the sundress for Warlokk's marvelous Rio gal; I hope you can use them for something.  Of course you need Warlokk's mesh for this.

The first dress in the screenshot is Warlokk's; I included it because the tops of the legs look a little bit strange, and I wanted you to be able to see that this occurs in the original as well.

Thanks to Warlokk for all his fabulous work!
5  Retired Creators / Rio / Simple Recolors of Rio PJ's, Formals, Exercise, and Undies on: June 02, 2007, 05:29:13 pm
I made these for my own game, and I thought I'd upload them, just in case anybody else wanted them.  These are very simple recolors, but they do add a bit of variety.
6  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Fun with Plant People on: March 02, 2007, 05:17:30 pm
I just had my first normal sim turn into a plant person, and it's fun.

He was spraying a buggy plant, and then a cloud of spray enveloped him, and I thought, "Oh, crap, he's poisoned himself."  But no.  After the game froze for quite awhile (must be a complicated transition for the poor guys :-)), he turned into a plant sim.

Plant sims have three needs:  Sunlight, Water, and Love.  No more toilets, comfy sofas or TV!  One of his options when taking care of plants now is "talk to plant."  And he hunkers down beside a plant and has a conversation.  He seems to talk about normal sim interests, but ones that are especially relevant to plants: weather, environment, and animals.  At one point, he was talking about ladybugs and made buzzing sounds when talking. :-)  I had him talk to a sickly plant, and he made it healthy again, just by talking to it.  AND talking to the plant satisfied his own "love" need.  Cool!

When his water need got low, I tried having him drink some water, but that only raised it a little bit.  But taking a shower -- bam!  Full up! :-)

Well, this happened five minutes ago, so I don't have a lot of details yet, but I thought it was fun and wanted to encourage people to try it at least once.

Happy simming!
7  Retired Creators / Guest Bodyshape Add-ons / Simple Recolors for Warlokk's 34D40 Meshes on: February 14, 2007, 12:51:09 am
I made some simple recolors of Warlokk's Bodyshape clothes for my game and thought I'd upload them, just in case anybody else wanted them, too.

There are pink, light blue, lavender, and multicolored halter tops, 34Dn.

There's a lavender swimsuit, a blue nightie with a sort of nubbly texture, and a blue track suit.

My recolors are very primitive, but since there's so little for these body types, I thought I'd share them anyway.

This is the first time I've uploaded anything to this site, so if I manage to screw it up, I apologize in advance. :-)

And of course you need Warlokk's wonderful meshes to use these.

Thanks, Warlokk! Those of us with curves really appreciate your project!
