^True. And that's why they can't put it in the game. If it looks like they support it, parents will throw a hissy fit. Hence the reason (in my opinion) that they go for the more conservative route in a lot of aspects of the game (body sliders, detailed skins, etc). It's all about making money and they'll get more parents on board if it's a "clean" game. That's what I think, at least. Kinda sucks, but what can ya do?  Undecided

If SKINS are your only concern, they are not a realistic one, since even games that lack any ability to load custom textures at all can have the texture overridden in graphic memory by texture replacement programs.

Sweet. That really is my main concern. At least there is some hope ...

I was a hardcore TS2 gamer but even with all the CC and stuff it started losing some its luster because I couldn't personalize their personalities and such.  Besides I want to possibly work in video game development and I think I can learn things from TS3.  I'm willing to give it a try.  It's possible they start adding things a little later on just like the EPs for TS2.

Exactly. I am fully aware that we will be back-tracking in some aspects from 2 to 3, but we'll also be moving forward in others! Sure, the sims in 3 aren't even close to being as beautiful as mine are currently in 2, but if I can create people that actually act like I had imagined and I can just sit back and watch them, I think this game will have a pretty darn good foundation to build on. Sure, I love CC as much as the next guy, but I'm also willing to take a chance that the new game will have good qualities too. And if it does happen to suck, then 2 will still be there. There's no harm in that.

Not saying that I completely disagree with all of you who have reservations about 3, (I think they are perfectly reasonable honestly) and I completely understand where you are coming from. But, I do think that the reason that El Lectro started this thread was to find out who is excited for the game, not who isn't. Most of the other threads in the Sims 3 buzz area have turned into debate threads over the game and it would be nice to not do that in one ... just saying.  rolleyes

Star Trek!! And man was it fantastic.  Grin

El Lectro, I am totally in the same boat as you! Lately I've only been playing 2 to figure out which of my sims I like the best and want to recreate in the 3! It's kind of sad actually ...  rolleyes I am kind trying to reserve my excitement a little though. I am afraid of the possibility of not having CC. I think that people will eventually figure out how though even if it's not possible at first, so I'm trying to be hopeful!

I kind of feel like the potential of having sims that will actually function on their own will make the game infinitely more interesting and I'm pretty psyched for it. Here's to hoping it lives up to the hype!!  YAY

I wonder just how many teens really could be bothered to spend their precious time playing the game, and is all this teen thing could just be wishful thinking by EA. and I wonder just what the ratio is for teen and adult in playing the game.
This teen thing has always puzzled me because all the teens I know have far to many other distractions I really don't know of many that sit down and play computer games.

I've been playing The Sims since I got the first one was like ten. And most of the other teenagers I know play The Sims 2 currently or at least have played it. So... I'd say a lot of them play it. Yeah.

Definitely. I started playing it when I was a teen, I just happen to not be one anymore!  Grin

Roezman, are u saying that skinning and making eyes is not bossible  shocked, if so it would be horrible...but i guess we really can´t tell until summer.

Yeah ... pretty much. We don't know for sure, but it's kind of looking that way currently.
39  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Fat, plastic looking sims 3...? Missing something? on: April 29, 2009, 06:52:12 am
I dont mind sims looking cartoonish. For me sims are sims they are not humans. I think that the skins in sims 3 are much better from sims 2,  but i am little disapointed in the new eyes, i like sparling eyes with lights! First thing i will try to mod is to make new eyes in sims 3, i hope it´s possible. There are many skins and creations i will miss in sims 3 that were made by sims 2 community Sad, i wish i could take them and transport in the new game. I think that if maxis made everything for us there would not be modding community?! I just love sims communities and sharing with others and enjoy other peoples creations. If all this already was in the game, what would be left for community to do? Everyone should just think that this makes community creativity possible. If skinning is not possible in sims 3 that would whole another issue then i would be bitching about it and probably wouldn't stay interested in the game for long.

I agree except that right now we don't know if custom content is going to be possible. That's the real problem. If the game isn't exactly how we want it on release, we may not be able to change it. At all. And that sucks.

I'm going to wait a month or so before I buy Sims 3. I was going to pre-order it, but then I thought about Windows Vista and how it was an epic fail. There were so many issues with Vista, it's not even worth upgrading to. I want to see everyone else's reaction to Sims 3 before I buy it, so I can see what some of the kinks are.

Good plan. I'm not going to lie ... I'm kind of excited. But I don't want to be? It's kind of weird. I adore the Sims 2 and if there is no custom content in 3, I don't know if I could really justify getting it. No matter how many customizing options they give us, they can never be as good as what the community comes up with.

I'm so lame though; I'll probably end up buying it the first day. B/c apparently I'm a 5 year old and can't wait to find out how bad it screws up your computer first.  rolleyes

Back to the point. Even though I think a lot of people will get the new game, I'm positive that we won't be satisfied aesthetically with what they give us. People will come running back to 2 until we have custom options for 3. Which is good. B/c this community is too awesome to die out.
41  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: No SecuRom In Sims 3 on: April 21, 2009, 02:17:50 pm
Yeah, it doesn't explicitly say that it won't be in the game still ... but I kind of think (or hope) that they won't include it. It is their job after all (at least to some extent) to make the consumers happy, so I would hope they would take our unanimous, burning hatred for SecuROM into account!

But then again, I could be entirely too optimistic.  rolleyes
42  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: How will The Sims 3 affect the online community? on: April 16, 2009, 11:08:46 pm
I've been really intrigued by this question lately: do you think that the Sims 2 community will thrive and stay active or will it gradually fade away like the Sims 1?

Looks like you and I were somewhat being telepathetic, Magicflute. I started a very similar post in "General Sims 2 Discussion" called "No Death for Sims 2". Check it out...

I think the Sims 2 forums may just morph into the Sims 3 eventually.

This is what my post was almost "protesting". We, at the InSimenator were hoping and were re-assured that this site would not morph to going Sims 3. This makes me happy. Any other site wants to support the 3rd - they're free to do so.

Awesome. You know what they say about great minds! Grin
Yeah, I would be way ok with the sites splitting rather that morphing. There's such a great sims 2 comm. here ... it would be a pity to lose that. On the other hand, I kind of hope that some kind of sister site type of thing gets going. I'd love to see what some of the amazing creators on this site and others could do with the sims 3 ...
43  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: How will The Sims 3 affect the online community? on: April 16, 2009, 09:54:27 am
I think there will be online communities at first, but not necessarily new ones. That would probably take a while. I think the Sims 2 forums may just morph into the Sims 3 eventually. Or perhaps just split from them.
44  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: Good news about the sims 3 on: April 15, 2009, 09:19:41 am
^ True story. I do love mods.  Grin

The main thing that is keeping me interested in it is that the sims will actually take care of themselves. The fact that I could make people and actually sit back and watch them do what I want them to without controlling them ... that's pretty sweet. Other than that though, I agree 100%. Sims 2 is so incredibly awesome, especially now that the community has modified it so much. I think if people choose to stick with it, they definitely won't be going wrong.

Now let's just hope there's no SecurROM to mess up my computer for those of us that actually do get the game ...

Wow, Magicflute!  6 kids at once?  Are they all as cute as Brigham?  ;]

Lol, thanks! And amazingly, yes! I'll have to take some pictures of them altogether. Four of them are boys (and I think they all might be gay ... but don't quote me on that) and 2 are girls. They all have black hair and either green eyes like Brigham's or red eyes. Brigham is kind of my favorite though. I have this weird obsession with his nose ... it's very perfect and button-like! I'll have to take some better pictures of him so you can see.  rolleyes
