16  Retired Creators / BodyShape Requests / Question about Warlokk skintone packages... on: August 17, 2006, 11:57:51 pm
This isn't really a request, except for guidance... I'd be grateful for any comments.
I noticed recently that most of Warlokk's body shape skintones use just one texture file for both adults and teens in all weights. This made the job of editing some skin packages to give certain Sims a more 'unique' look a breeze.
Now, my question is this: if I wanted to re-use one of these skintones as the basis for a different 'look' (perhaps different body hair or other physical peculiarities for a new Sim) without wishing to go through the usual process of exporting the package in Body Shop, etc., instead saving the package with a new name in simPE ('Save As'), would the resulting new package file conflict with the original in any way?
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

I've got an easier way to mess with your NPCs. Use the chair on the Insimenator to make the NPC (if they're on your lot) selectable. Then you can mess with them any way you can normally mess with your sims.

I had fun making my papergirl selectable, then pregnant, accelerating the pregnancy until she was big and then slowing it back down again. She now waddles by and delivers the paper every day.

Oh, that paper girl... she's a slut. Drop a satellite on her!

....If you change the work uniforms of NPC's using this or the next method you will need to get from

http://modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=89766&page=1&pp=25

a .pkg file to stop them from changing back into uniforms for work.

The final method I am aware of seems to me to be easiest and best that I have tried. Go to

http://modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=108057&page=1&pp=25

and download the Sim Boutique Clothing Rack.  Put the rack into a sims house and you can summons any neighbor, townie or NPC and do a near complete makeover on them using a cas like environment.  Not only that, your sim gets to spend a pleasant evening with them. The downside is it will not change the bodyshape mesh, however choosing clothing linked to Warlokk's bodyshape meshes will alter their outward appearance.....

This looks like it could be a useful method for Mac players without the benefits of simPE or other PC applications.
Edit: Well, this works nicely. Much more fun than a shopping trip.. but 500 clams for a clothing rack!? Outrageous... daylight robbery!

Anyway, cool food for thought.:hello2:

I'd be rather reluctant to delete the simmies.  It may cause some sort of major meltdown and I'm not going to risk it.  I just leave them alone and they don't seem to mind.

I drop satellites on any townies I don't like, and demote boring sims I've created to townies. I give NPCs makeovers and face lifts, wherever possible, before making them selectable, locking them in and torturing them for hours...
Well, what the hell else is there to do?:sad5:

I just released the DD sizes of the Top Separates, which would provide some less... revealing tops... Smiley  Other sizes are still forthcoming though.

The batch script is DOS/Command line stuff, so I doubt it... but I also list which mesh files need to go away in the post.

Thanks. I just found what I should have downloaded in the first place.
To save myself further confusion, I'm deleting everything warlokk and starting again from scratch.
Thanks again.

Aaah... yes, you downloaded the old versions of a few of the meshes then.  In the Hi-res sets, I also included a Mesh Cleanup batch file for each one.  This will remove the old versions of the meshes you installed, and the new ones should work again.

I know this can be a pain, but it also allows any clothing made with the old meshes to automatically transition to the new ones, so the trade-off is worth it... there are some really great outfits folks made for the first BodyShape set, and I didn't want to make people lose those.

I see... I think. Still a teensy bit confused though.
Where can I find the new outfits? Are there 'smooth' versions of the hi-res tops and bottoms for 'peek-free' outfitting? I don't suppose the batch files will work on a Mac, will they?
Sorry to be a dim wit.

Hey warlokk

I'm very confused!
I've been using the hi-res nudes for my sims - just 34A-D and 32-36 hips.

Now I just downloaded the bodyshape tops and outfits for 34A/B/C and I found that all the hi-res tops have disappeared from Body Shop, except the default and D cup models, though I have removed nothing at all from my Downloads folder.
Is this normal or am I missing something really obvious?
In using these tops and outfits, will my nude sims lose their detail?
If I delete ALL the smooth tops and bottoms, will the hi-res ones reappear?
Presumably the full body and outfit meshes have no bearing on how the sims look in the shower.
I've got nearly 400 items in my downloads folder, most of them yours... any suggestions you can give me would be welcome before I start weeding.

Thanks

Sorry... I was just about to request the 34A, but I found them already. Thanks... you are as God to the Sims!:hello2:
24  Simmers' Paradise / Content Creation & Recoloring Help / Need simPE advice on: May 24, 2006, 11:54:52 am
Hi

I have a question about simPE. I wonder, can it be used to package skintones on a computer with no Sims 2 installed? In other words, is it in any way a stand alone application? I'm sorry, I don't know anything about simPE.:dontknow:

I play the Mac version of Sims 2, so obviously I can't enjoy the benefits of simPE... sniff. :sad5: Obviously, Body Shop alone is totally useless for importing custom skintones.:angry7:

However, I do have access to an XP laptop (though without the PC version of Sims 2)... I could download and install simPE on that, and transfer my skintone PNGs from the Mac but...
would I be able to work on them in simPE without the Sims 2 being present on the drive?:brain:

Thanks
Nina:group hu:

EDIT: Okay... no sweat. I've found an answer. Thanks.:hello2:

PNG is probably fine.  I usually do uncompressed TIFF's.  Just make sure your partner has the latest nVidia DDS Texture Tools installed and import the texture into SimPE using the Build DXT... command (don't import the TIFF directly, or you will get SimPE's crappy default conversion and your textures will look like poo).

Cool! When my partner gets back from touting hi-tech toilet seats at some bathrooms exhibition in Shanghai, I'll make a start.
Thanks again.

Thanks, this is interesting. As I use a Mac, I'm screwed for simPE. However, my partner has an XP laptop I could use occasionally.
Do you think if I did all my artwork on the Mac in psd, converted it to PNG, and then transferred it the XP to finish, that would work? Or does simPE require a TS2 installation on the same disc?
Also, does simPE require any expanded memory to work efficiently.
Sorry to be a nuisance, but this is really bugging me.:violent2:
Actually, I'm tackling this same issue with meremale elsewhere...

Is it inevitable that using Body Shop to import custom nude skintones results in streaked and blotchy looking Sims?

Thanks for your quick reply... I love a man who loves what he's doing!
Anyway, I think I get all that. I guess all I really need to do now is take the plunge, right.
Just one point though... you say:

...The size on the skintone will only show when the sim is naked.  When I make the skintones, I make sure the icon and the pop-up note are very clear on which size it is.

I'm not quite clear what you mean... you don't mean the fat lady only sings when she's in the bath or... otherwise engaged, do you.
Do I take it then, that for her to sing all the time, all of her wardrobe must be in skintones assigned to meshes of her weight?
So, if she's got a fat bum but a small bust, it'll be down to me to make sure she has decent threads to wear... am I on the right tack?:smt120
29  Retired Creators / Female Hi-Res Bodyshape Project / Can I ask a couple of dumb questions... on: May 17, 2006, 01:55:29 pm
I'm an absolute beginner with TS2, so forgive me if I am going over well trodden ground.
I haven't installed any default replacements yet, though from the rave reviews you get, I think I would like to try your hi res female nudes... in fact I've downloaded your default top/bottom set already. But before I use them...

Do I understand that the underlying sim body mesh is actually two parts, unlike the single body meshes of the original Sims?

And as for the size varieties you are creating, I wonder how these show up in 'create a sim' and body shop... I presume they appear in the custom menus?

Lastly, if I prepare unique body skins of my own... say, a tattooed lady, will they work with your meshes?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.
