196  Simmers' Paradise / Sims / Hotlinking: What it is and why it isn't allowed on: June 24, 2009, 08:02:08 pm
There is still confusion about hotlinking images and why it's not allowed. Hopefully this explanation will help clear this up for those of you who are still confused.

Hotlinking to an image (also known as piggybacking, leeching and other descriptive names) is when you use the img tags to wrap around an image found on another site to make it appear here, or any other site. This is bandwidth theft. Every time a page with a hotlinked image is loaded, the outside server has to use bandwidth to display the image... bandwidth someone else is paying for. It's bad netiquette and we don't allow it. If it helps you to understand, it's like someone else plugging into your phone line to make a long distance call you have to pay for. Bandwidth theft is a serious issue since you are, in essence, stealing money out of someone's pocket. Whether there are img tags around a hotlink or not, a hotlink is a hotlink.

What you should do is save the image to your computer and upload it to a third party image hosting service, such as Photobucket, Imageshack or whatever hosting site you prefer, and display it here that way. Most image hosting sites are simple to use and will provide you with the bulletin board code you need for your images to display here. It only takes a few minutes to upload and grab the code (so the oft seen "I didn't have the time" excuse is a poor one, indeed). Any images we find hotlinked will be removed and if you keep hotlinking after being asked not to, you will be warned and possibly even banned.

199  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 Web / Got a Sims 3 Site? A Sims 3 section on your site? on: June 22, 2009, 11:32:54 am
Great! We'd love to see it! If you have a Sims 3 site, or a section on your Sims site dedicated to the Sims 3, then yes, you may still advertise it on our site. We welcome it heartily! Instead of posting it in here, however, we would ask that you put all Sims 3 site/section advertisements in the Sims 3 Web section, please, since we do have that section in place. Thank you!  YAY
200  Simmers' Paradise / I Want My Own Thread / Important Information for Everyone With a Personal Thread- Update 4/21/10 on: June 20, 2009, 03:06:51 pm
Hi everyone,

As you can see, we've been spending a bit of time cleaning up the entire Picture Section. Now, we know some of you like to have your own thread; however, this is under the assumption that it's because you have a lot of pictures to share and don't want to feel like you are 'spamming' the general threads with your own pictures. This is fine, so long as you intend to keep updating it. Seeing all the great pictures from your games is great, but having all these pages of personal threads filled with pictures takes up a lot of space on the server, so we would like you to do your best to keep it up to date.

To that end, anyone who has NOT updated their thread within the past six months will have one week from today to update with something new or it will be cut. Then, effective June 27/09 (one week from today), everyone with personal threads remaining must update at least once every six (6) weeks or face deletion of their threads.

Also, it would be appreciated if, when you add an update, you edit the title of your thread with the date of your last update so it can be seen at a glance (as some of you are already doing.)

Edit: Reminder! You must update your thread with a new picture once every six weeks or you will risk losing it. If something comes up and you need a week's leeway, then please PM one of the staff to let them know. We understand things happen. But we won't let it go indefinitely. If more than six weeks passes with no update and no staff PM, you'll lose the thread.
201  Simmers' Paradise / Sims Stories / Pictures and this section-PLEASE READ on: June 15, 2009, 12:39:22 pm
Hi everyone.

We know you like to see the pretty preview pictures on the threads, but there is a standing site rule that states all images must be hosted on a third party image hosting site (photobucket, imageshack, etc). The only place where we allow any images to be uploaded directly to the server is in the Community/Contributor Downloads sections. No where else. The fewer uploaded images we have, the less server bloat we have, which is why we ask everyone to host their pictures elsewhere. It goes a long way to making the site load faster for many people.

Please do not upload images directly to the server. Instead, use photobucket or whatever third party site you like. Any attached images shall be removed. Also, if anyone is quoting a post with images, please do not include the images in your quote. That cuts down on page load time as well. Smiley

Oh, one more thing. Please remember, as well, that pictures my not be larger than 600 x 600. We know you go through a lot of work taking pictures, so please take an extra second to ensure your images are properly resized, because any oversized images will be deleted.
202  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 Pictures / Important Information regarding pictures- EVERYONE, PLEASE READ on: June 15, 2009, 12:10:13 pm
In spite of the staff reciting the rules regarding uploading images directly to the site, it's still going on. Please... do not use the attachment feature to upload images to posts. We only allow uploaded images to the Downloads sections of the forum. No where else. Always use a third party service to host your pictures, please. It will go a long way to help cut down on server bloat and will make the site load faster for everyone. Any uploaded images will either be removed from the post, or, you may find your post deleted. Repeat offenders will be given warnings.

Second, with the release of the Sims 3, I know a lot of you are excited to show off your pictures. We have a section for that, so we'd like you to make use of it. Post Sims 3 images in the Sims 3 Pictures section. Any Sims 3 images posted in this section will be removed.
203  A Safe Haven / General Discussion / Since this is the trend here lately...Happy birthday to me! on: March 31, 2009, 02:40:37 pm
Happy birthday to meeeee!

Yep, today is my birthday and what a proud day it is. Each year we get we should be proud of, because you never know what can happen. I learned to appreciate those years when I was a teen. I'm shooting for immortality, personally, and it's working, so far.

Immortal so far... cause I'm not dead yet Wink
204  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Misc. Mods and Careers / Important! Please read this BEFORE uploading any mods to this section!!! on: January 25, 2009, 02:09:25 am
Alot of you put in a great deal of work in creating mods for us all to enjoy and appreciate; however, there are a few things we would like you to add to your upload post to help people make an informed decision about whether they want to add it to their game or not. The title of your mod may make what it does obvious to you, but you made it, so of course it does. It's not guaranteed to be so clear cut to us. We would like to see:

  • A complete description of the mod and what it does.
  • A picture of the object and/or pie menu players will interact with, a picture of it in use, or both, if applicable.
  • What known conflicts, if any, it has with other mods.
  • What EPs/SPs are needed
  • And, of course, if any credit is due to anyone, then please give it

Consider the number of people who will pass over something you have made because they're not sure what it does. Many of these people won't ask you to explain it better (because they're shy or whatever) and, even if they would love it, won't download it out of fear. Give as much information about your creation as you can. It will only get more people interested in downloading it.
205  Simmers' Paradise / Sims 2 Pictures / WCIF Questions in the picture threads on: May 23, 2008, 04:21:54 pm
We all love looking at the pictures here and often admire the skill our members have with making sims or taking great shots and, sometimes, we see something shiney that we absolutely must have for our games. When this happens, the temptation is to type a question in the picture thread begging the picture taker to share where they got that great hair/hat/makeup/clothing/chair/whatever. This is what the WCIF section is for. An even better alternative is to send the question directly to the person who took the picture via pm. Either option is acceptable, but please refrain from asking WCIF questions in the picture threads from now on.
206  Simmers' Paradise / Anecdote Assistance / What Anecdote Assistance is for. on: December 27, 2007, 06:13:27 pm
I realize I'm not a moderator, but I've been noticing a lot of questions being put here that should go in General Help.

Anecdote Assistance is a place for you to post questions relating to a story you're writing or are thinking of writing (plot line continuity, story idea help, requests for a beta reader, etc).

If you're having a problem with your game and need help getting it to run properly again, or just have a question about the sims 2 game, it belongs in General Help. Putting your questions in the right place will ensure your question will be seen by the people who can best answer it, and you'll get the help you need that much sooner.
207  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Dogs / Freakshow-A Mixed Breed Family Dog on: April 25, 2007, 12:23:56 am
I would like to introduce you all to the most adorable doofus you'll ever meet. This is Freakshow, the James' family dog. They adopted him one fine day, saving him from the pound and a miserable fate. His breed has always been a question, and when asked what he is, the James family all just say, with a smile, "He's a doofus/dog mix".

After witnessing him run around and chase his tail until he passed out, bark at a hamburger and play tag with a speck of dust, they knew there was only one name for him: Freakshow, or Freak for short. He's a friendly, hyperactive, doofus who tends to wander along the middle of the road as far as cleanliness and aggression go. He is, by far, my favorite hound in the game. I am happy to share him with you and hope you have as much fun with his antics as I do Smiley
208  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Dogs / By Request, Mona...sunset_sims341's sweet dog on: April 23, 2007, 10:57:57 pm
Hello everyone! Cheesy

Sunset_sims341 requested someone make her dog, Mona. She was such a sweet looking dog, I just had to give it a try. You can find photos of her here and here.

So, without further ado, I present to you for download, the adorable Mona.

I'll take better pictures of her ingame soon (tomorrow likely) and replace these ones with them (I forgot to turn on Fraps and used the ingame camera instead *facepalm*)
209  Sims 2 Community Downloads / Cats / My Cat: Lobo, A Maine Coon Tabby on: February 21, 2007, 11:03:57 pm
I've decided to share my cat with you all. He's my precious boy, and a definite character. I've had him since he was a wee kitten, barely big enough to fit into the palm of my hand (no word of a lie, just ask Inyri_Jax). His name is really "Little Boy", but he soon grew, and grew, and grew. Before long, the name just didn't suit him any longer, and he is now known fondly as "Lobo" (though he answers to many names: Lobo, Lobster, and Bottoms, to name a few). In reality, his cheeks are bushier and the white mask across his nose is not quite so symetrical, but I'm limited by what CAS will let me do.

If you want to have him in your game true to character, feel free to use the following information:

He's a genious
He's very active
He's very friendly
He's midway between agressive and cowardly
He's very, very, very clean

Have fun with him! He loves the attention!

210  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / How much time do you spend on houses? on: November 09, 2006, 03:22:27 pm
I just spent the past four days on a house for one of my families. It's not quite finished (but then, they're never quite finished, are they), but done enough for them to live in.

I was looking at it last night and thinking, "Wow...four days to build", and it got me wondering if this was normal or if I was just a freak, as I am in most other things.
