Are you talking about kids or teens?
Are you using any custom content that might cause this problem? - If you're not sure, try moving your downloads folder, then run the game. If you've still got the problem, it's most likely NOT a custom content problem. If you don't have the problem anymore, it's most likely a hack or something that's causing this, try moving the files from your downloads folder back slowly, one bit at a time, running your game after each move, to find out which file caused the problem. Yeah, that's incredibly time-consuming, depending on the size of your downloads folder
Are the kids in private school? If they are, do kids who go to public school have the same glitch?
Something very strange is going on... I hope it'll be solved soon!

If you've installed Bon Voyage, Free Time, H&M stuff pack or any of the stuff packs after that one, you've GOT Securom. No doubt about it.
But that you have it doesn't mean it'll cause any problems. It might cause problems, or it may not. I have no problems with it on my pc, but there are MANY horror stories about what Securom can do to a computer.

Are they both in a good mood?

I think I'll try uninstalling then re-installing in the correct order. I'll let you know the outcome

I came back from a large break from playing the sims 2. I'd uninstalled all my sims 2 expansions from my computer, pretty much removed everything sims2-related.
A few days ago, I felt like playing again, so I installed the sims2 base game, and OFB, Seasons and Free Time. Everything worked perfectly fine.
Today I felt like installing some more EPs, and tried installing Uni, NL and Pets. Uni seemed to install just fine, except at the very end, when you're supposed to get a screen saying it was successfully installed. I didn't get that screen, and my computer froze, I had to press the reset button to get it going again.
I hoped it had still installed just fine, since the rest of the installation didn't give any errors. So I installed NL after that, and got exactly the same thing. Then I tried Pets, and low and behold, that installed perfectly fine and the comp didn't freeze.
After this, I tried playing the game, but it doesn't register Uni or NL as being installed. They do show up in the Start Menu and Program Files. I have Windows XP.

What went wrong?!?
Should I have tried to install them in the correct order instead of trying uni, nl & Pets after OFB, seasons and FT?
Us there a limit to how many times an EP can be installed? Because I share Uni and NL with my best friend, and all the other EPs are 100% my own. So Uni and NL have been installed more often than the others...
Maybe it's because Uni and NL are CD-rom versions and all the others are DVDs?

Is there anyone who might have any clue? If you need more info, please let me know exactly what you need, and I'd be glad to give it to you.

Are they unpacked .package files?
If not, double click on them, and you'll get a screen asking if you want to install them. Do so, and they'll be in your game.
If they are unpacked, maybe they require one or more expansion pack? Check the page from which you originally downloaded them to be sure of that.

If the file you're downloading is a .zip or .rar file, unpack them using a program like winzip or winrar. You can save the zip file anywhere on your computer, as long as it's easy for you to find, of course. Unzip them to  "my documents/EA Games/The sims 2/downloads". If the downloads folder does not exist, create it.
If the file you are downloading is a .package file, again, save anywhere on your computer. Then double click on it to unpack it, and you'll get a pop-up screen listing the files contained in the package and asking if you want to install those into your game. They'll automatically go into the correct folder.

Once unpacked or installed, you can delete the .zip, .rar and .package files you downloaded, unless you want to save them in case something happens with your downloads folder.
Some .zip or.rar files don't go into the downloads folder, but that's ALWAYS specifically stated on the page the download is on.

So you haven't tried to start the game without CC? Just move your downloads folder to some other place (like the desktop), run the game,and see if it still crashes. If it doesn't crash, the problem is somewhere in your downloads folder.

It doesn't matter if your downloads folder is well-organized. I mean, if there is a problem with your CC, the organising makes it easier to find the problem, but it doesn't have any other effect.

Oh, are you supposed to actually SEE birds when your sims are birdwatching!
Yeah, appears I've got the same problem. Or EAxis just forgot to program the birds into the game
