1  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / Re: The Sims 3 (In Comparison) on: December 21, 2008, 12:35:58 pm
For my own part, I expect I'll get Sims 3 anyway - except for a few harder to find sim games early, I've gotten everything from simcity on.

I'm not worried about the graphics.  Skins are textures, and thus replaceable, since they keep repeating we can use our own textures.  Eyes and the like being on a slider for colour is no big, either - you make a greyscale texture to replace and it should work - its how its done in SL, and it means less clogging of recolours.  Imagine having to only do one eye in a texture instead of 7 or 8 to get shades you want?

On the other hand, the things I'd like the most still aren't in game, as far as I've been able to find out.  No round walls, no diagonal stairs, and both are things that interior design programs have had for 15 years now, even the ones you can just buy to play with.  Surely they could do them with the sims.

But my biggest issue is that they have securom and seem to be heading for Steam as well - and I'm not really partial to either.  Nor am I fond of them charging -me- an arm and a leg, then forcing me to have advertising in my -games-.  Ads are one reason I watch little television. Tongue

I for one am quite happy being 36 for a few more months.  And trust me, its always good to be presumed younger than you are, unles you wish to drink.

Oooooh, okies.

No rush, as I said I was curious - also in the process of getting ready for a move and of course holiday stuff and....

I've got a question.  Was the Animal Army stuff gotten rid of on purpose, or was it just done away accidently as a part of the cleanup?  Just curious.

Yay for new sites!
6  The Sims 3 / Sims 3 Buzz / why is everyone so pessimistic about the sims 3? on: October 18, 2008, 11:34:08 am
The final designs might be a bit more refined once the game is actually released.  I'm more concerned about the company's treatment of their customers.

Securom doesn't touch pirates - a pirated copy of the game has had the DRM stripped.  It only harms the people who buy the game, who are then accused by the EA CEO of being idiots or pirates - neither of which is less than insulting.

There are plenty of people up in arms, and multiple lawsuits against EA now for their DRM - Penny Arcade ran a series of articles on the subject not too long ago.  Its finally hitting national attention.

And EA has learned that us americans are willing to pay out the nose for content - look at the prices at the 360 store to download music for Rockband 2 - estimated average per song is over a dollar.  Substandard hairs from the Sims 2 store are a dollar a piece - they make the other EAxis hairs look like works of art, comparitively.  Not even animated when they should be.

Online playing was poorly executed - TSO was one of the biggest travesties of ignoring most of their beta-testers in favor of the few going 'But MMOs are all about the GRIND'

Anyway, I'll wait and see, but honestly, I doubt I'll be buying sims 3.

Actually, she has the Gems set done too - found them there before I'd come by here to see if there was anything new done, then had to see if i'd gotten the the genetic versions already.

Now to start making all your eyes genetic too.  I especially adore these, because I adore gems in general as a theme for well...anything.

I just had to do a reinstall - My first plan, once I get all the empty neighborhood templates is to delete my mess around neighborhood, install all the clean files, and start taking every single EAxis house and remodeling it.

Sims 3 looks promising - I'm not too worried about the skintones and such, because I'd expect those will be customizeable, even if meshing isn't viable.

My concern is in meshing - will we be able to change meshes, and if so, how hard will it be - they make a lot of noise about modding textures, so I expect those will be easy enough to replace.

Also, concerned about building - I rarely actualy -play- the sims, I build.  This is likely going to change with FT and AL being out, but unless they have magic or crafting type stuff out of the box, or gardening, fishing and seasons....

I'm just worried because of the whole lack of info, and the fact they seem to lack QA at any level.

The only way to eyes like that is with accessories - sim eyes use one image for both eyes.

And Enayla, just wanted to say that your stuff is always so lovely, even if sometimes its too magical for my more prosaic neighborhoods.

I'm annoyed that they broke the OFB windows - so many of my houses are borked right now.

Otherwise, apartments are a nice option -  a little small, but viable.

Witches? - meh - only teen and up, still, pretty cool anyway.

Living Statue!  [FTW]

*comforts* That has got to be painful, losing all your work like that.  And agreed, your stuff is always so gorgeous.

That's cool - I just would love to see my sims getting to wear 'native' clothing on vacations without losing their figures.
