I haven't been able to read this forum for ages. Now that I can, I LOVE THIS POST!

Beautiful! And Helpful! and Funny!

As a confirmed and certified user of AM for many years, it makes me feel all happy inside.

what a pity. Are many people even still playing sims 2 here?

Smiles. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I enjoyed writing it - it was one of those things that just happened in the game and it felt so right, so I wrote it that way. Yeah, I have a great prison cell waiting for Gabriel - but you know court cases take some time so it will be a while before I carry on with his story. <grin>

Currently playing rather than building, I've got the MegaHood bug.

I've been writing about the Belladonna Cove Sims; they lead surprisingly exciting lives. This week there was some very nasty domestic violence, though that's thankfully not typical.

Wow, brilliant job! She's quite recognisable. Beautiful Sim of a pretty girl!
7  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: You know you play the Sims too much when.... Part II on: June 22, 2010, 04:47:40 am
When you walk past a GAME shop and simply cannot resist the urge to buy the next EP - for Sims 3 which you have uninstalled .... huh

When you find a disk for Hot Date in a local junk shop and start jumping up and down for joy, although you have two at home already and haven't played Sims 1 for months.

It's called addiction.  Evil and I love it!
8  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Discussion / Re: Petition For New Sims2 EP on: June 22, 2010, 04:44:54 am
yes, I agree - with BOTH points of view.

Yes, Another EP for Sims 2 would be amazing,
and Yes, it ain't gonna happen.

Oh and I'm not surprised about the petition sites being compromised. Since I signed one or two petitions I am now getting an amazing amount more spam. Even if the site itself isn't selling email addresses there may well be an easy hack to get the addresses. My spam filter is kept busy, (hundreds of messages a day). Unless you change your email addy, which is inconvenient, that's all you can do.

9  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Crashing on entering Lots on: May 02, 2010, 06:54:38 pm
Not sure I understand that - this is a Mega Hood and the lots that are crashing are in various different places Belladonna Cove and the subhoods Pleasantview, Verona, Desiderata etc - The only place I haven't noticed any Lots crash is the Uni area - oh and Downttown cos nobody lives there.

So I spose the question then is, would the SAME townie, complete with incorrect mesh, be scheduled to walk past the lots in ALL of those places? As I understand it the AL townies would only turn up in apartment areas? The regular playable Sims have mostly been reverted to Maxis meshes as I've been going through process of checking, cos each time I COULD play a little, I saved, so they have Maxis hair and clothes when I first call them up again.

Thanks for trying anyhow.

yes but I heard that Delphy's prog if used with files that have been compressorized will (or might) corrupt them? So I daren't... I compressorize all my files cos it seems to help speed up loading. As I have to load five or more times before I can play, this is sorta important to me.

Do I understand you to mean that if this was a mesh, it would only crash the lots where it was used? I don't think there is anything I use that is on all the lots that crash. And yes I don't get any errors reported...

No, I have Windoze XP for Sims - also Linux but it don't work there Tongue
Not struck with what I have heard of Vista and my sysadmin son says if I get it he will disconnect me from our network...
I have a large Downloads folder, but nowhere near as big as some - 3.46 gigs.
I normally delete the contents of Thumbnails folder before starting.
I have all the EPs and all but one Stuff Pack - one of the Christmas ones I think... and I'm pretty sure I am not using stuff made from that.
I do have some very large subfolders inside the downloads folder - a couple of sites I am very fond of Smiley
it's a good puter with decent RAM and plenty of space on HDs.
Thing that seems odd to me is that it is NOT random - it always crashes at exactly the same point in loading a Lot. Presumably that's when it's loading a particular set of files - CC? Once the game is up and running it never crashes. Touch wood!  Rock

Thanks for your advice anyways.
Paden I don't think I'll get soured on the game, at least not enough to give up completely. I'm an addict Smiley and Sims 2 still beats the socks off Sims 3 IMHO.

Still testing.

i was afraid you would say that. My problem is it is not just A weekend. It's every week!

The only other thing I can think of is to NOT put any more downloads in,at all, ever... and that sort of takes most of the fun out of Simming.

I spose I get to play the game, working properly with all my dls in, for a day or two at most, then off I go again.

I am astonished that with all the brilliant Simmers we have, nobody has managed to make any kind of checking program though - I do use the CleanInstaller every time of course. Oh well, back to testing. It would help if it didn't take 45 minutes to load the game when it has much content in it, to go through all that and then find it's borked again....  Undecided

I wonder if there is any point in making a list of things that broke the game, to share with other Simmers? Though that wouldn't solve things conflicting with other things, it might help pick out the Dls that are plain corrupt...
15  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Hard time building split-level stairs on: April 30, 2010, 07:18:32 am
edit; - added missing link argh!  shocked

I have some stairs tutorials starting from this page http://www.simechoes.org/simechoes2/sims2/sims2info/tutorials/stairs/stairs.html that might help. You need to be using the boolprop constrainfloorelevation false cheat. And even with that stairs are difficult - I usually build stairs BEFORE the rest of the house, if I can.
The key is that you level the walls from ABOVE. You have to put a floor above where you want to change the walls, even if you are not going to keep it there, and then use the above cheat on the UPPER tiles. With that you can draw all the walls to the height you want them.
I have still found it impossible to recreate certain layouts of RL staircases though.
Good luck!
