16  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Re: Default Skins on: April 19, 2009, 07:34:20 pm
Thanks so much for the help.

I think I understand the process, but I do have a question.  The link for the nvidia dds tools in the tutorial did not work, so I went to the nvidia site and they seem to have the tool packaged with a suite of free tools.  I got it at this link: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/dds_utilities_legacy.html  Does this look like the same tool, the first tool in the package is labeled nvDXT - convenient command-line access to nvDXTlib functionality

Thanks so much

Hello All,

I have a couple of questions regarding Default Replacement Skintones

I heard that if you want to create a new set of default replacement skin tones, all you have to do is get a set of default replacements that someone else made and change the textures.  So my questions are:

1.  Is that true?

2.  If you can just replace the textures, how do you get to them?  What I mean is, I have default replacement skin tones in my game, but I do not see them, in body shop, they show up as the maxis textures.  If I export these, will I get the skins from maxis, or will I get the replacements and be able to edit them.

3.  I thought they had to have special file names to work, is this true?  or is the naming internal and would that already be done by exporting and existing default replacement set?

Thanks for whatever anyone can tell me!

I do this all the time when creating skin tones for myself from other people's work.  For instance, I love hairy sim guys, but sometimes people only make the adult sim hairy and then leave the elder and teen sims barbie style. In bodyshop, I simply export the skintone that I want to take the hairy body from and give it a new name.  Then I copy the adult male parts of the tone into two separate folders, one labeled teen and one labeled elder.  Then I take the items under teen and rename them as the teen parts of the skin tone are named and I do the same for the elder.  Then I copy them back into place and import the file back into the game.  You can also do the same for the female parts of the sims body and the outcome is you have a skin tone that has the same appearance from teen to elder it sounds hard, but I can do it in less than 30 minutes, a little longer if I tweak things like the face to match.   Rock

I think I misunderstood the original question.  What  you would do in the case of the beos tones is to export the beos tone from bodyshop.  After that, export the tone that has the body that you wish to use for the teen - adult (but in the more economical package).  Then copy the artwork for the adult male and female from the second tone onto the beos artwork and simply paste the body type you want over his artwork.  Of course, leaving out the parts that beos tone excluded.  You will then reimport the beos tone with whatever name it is you wish to use for it.  Basically all you will be doing is overwriting the beos tone and renaming it to suit your new skin tone.  If you need help, feel free to pm me and I will be happy to maybe get on messenger and walk you through it.

I hate to admit just how addicted I am.  When I first got the original Sims game (some say sims 1).  I was on a weekend off from work.  I played for over 72 hours straight and my son had to remind me to get bathed and go to bed for work the next day, then I knew I was addicted.  Until about a month ago, I had an older computer.  It suffered a major crash and I had to replace it.  I decided that I would not Sim any longer and I would kick the habit.  That lasted less than a month and I am back at it with all of the Sims 2 and expansions.  I somehow fear that in my final years I will be playing the latest greatest Hologram version of the sims that will come out in 2035, lol.  As for downloads and such, I have so many I don't even use them all, I just hate to throw out old stuff.

The one that I had was the first one, but I changed her skin tone in my game because I wanted her to be a classic pinup body shape.  She was beautiful and died way before her time in my game.   Rock

This is actually a reply to Nonni, I did get her from a site where they post a lot of characters.  It was either here or at MTS2.

How on earth did I miss these.  I have been saving my Neanderthal man for when you had a formal mesh out for months, and here it is!  I could have been playing him months ago.  Thank you so much!

I read all of her posts on the subject and there was a bit more detail that she gave out.  For instance, as an example, she said that items that had symbols such as pentagrams would not be tolerated and objects like inverted crosses would not be tolerated.  She seems to feel that it is not appropriate to embrace the darker side of witchcraft.  She also stated in her post that the site would allow objects and items that reference more of a 'Bewitched' type of lighter view on witchcraft.

I also read some of the responses to her rule and from what I read, they were more attacks than responses.  They, in my opinion, seem to be the 'you are stupid if you don't agree with me....' type of responses rather than people simply stating their opinions and moving on from there.

If I recall correctly, there was also a similar discussion here a long time back regarding stories and objects involving slavery and other forms of human abuse.  Some wanted to see items that would assist in creating stories of such behaviors and those in control here took the stance that such items and stories would not be tolerated for any reason.

How is one really any different from the other?  Site owners have the ultimate right to determine what their site will or won't tolerate and will or won't promote.  Those who enjoy the site then have to make a choice regarding whether or not they want to continue using the site.  Those who make items that violate policy must then choose to either keep their creations to themselves or choose post them elsewhere.

I often think we forget two important things when visiting sites.

First, the site owner owns the site and has the ultimate right to determine what will be posted there.  If visitors and creators don't like it, they can join another site or create their own.

Second, it's only a game!

For me, the bottom line is:  I don't agree 100% with things I see here at this site or at that site.  I choose to go to the sites because I like the people and the creations.  If there is something I want that these sites don't offer, I go elsewhere.

Sorry, figured it out, needed a space before the -w, thanks!

I have tried that, but when I add the -w and try to save (either in or out of the quote marks) it says it is invalid and will not let me save.  Am I doing something wrong?
29  Simmers' Paradise / General Sims 2 Help / Yikes! the nanny stole my baby!! on: August 06, 2008, 05:15:59 am
I once had a neighbor leave a baby at a home, the odd thing was, the family in the home could pick the baby up like an object, but they could not care for him. The poor baby was starving, I invited the neighbor back the they would only handle the baby as an object.  Finally, I had to leave without saving.  I never did figure out why the neighbor showed up with the baby in arms either.  But it was funny to watch.
