So far, I have found that using other lot causes errors. You will see the aptartment on city screen but when you go to move a family in you will only be able to load building screens. The Sims controls you will not be able to use and you will not see your sim/s.

I recommend you only build apt. on residental lot.

to build an apartment:
1. enter lots and houses bit and place an empty lot
2. zone the lot as residential and give it a name
3. enter the lot and build your apartment block
4. furnish all of the apartments you have made
5. press ctrl+shift+c to open the cheat box
6 type in "changelotzoning apartment" (without quotes)
7. exit lot and a green house should appear above the lot
click on the lot with the lots and houses bin open and a box with the number of apartments and the prices should appear enter lot and the residential letterbox should have been replaced with an apartment one

please note:
when building apartments you should only have one door leading into each apartment and all closets should be in little rooms
only use apartment life items
