The witches are just like any other NPC/Townie/etc., as in you'll eventually run into one on a community lot. When you do, just go over and make friends with one. When your relationship score is high enough with them, an option will pop up to ask them to teach you their craft. After that, you get the cauldron and the spellbook. You'll also gain access to two secret lots available only to witches and warlocks.

You can also buy spell ingredients from the grand high witches/warlocks, in exactly the same way you buy potions off the Gypsy.

Just for the sake of being overly-informative:
There are three varieties of witches/warlocks in the game: good, neutral, and evil. Their titles will indicate what path they follow; i.e. 'Jenna the Atrociously Evil Witch' and so forth. Their alignment is also displayed by their costumes, skintone, and a rather ugly aura.

SoonSoon, in order for witches/warlocks to cast spells they need to have "x" number of amount required to cast them. If you study the spell book it will show each individual spell and what or how many is needed for them to work properly.

or maybe a faster way to make witchy friends

If you live in Belladonna Cove- go into the Cordial household- they have mates who are Evil and Good, Invite which ever side you wish to join- and also the person you wish to make a witch. control shift C boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true, then shift click on the Cordial and click spawn, tombstone of L & D, click on tombstone and select make me friendly to everyone here, Induce said witch to make cordial a witch, then hug friendly or whatever interaction with invitee wannabe witch and make her one too!

this soudns really complicated doesnt it? i spose for me everyone haw a tombstone lying around and the cheats enabled all the time.

I wanna make a witch too! Which ep? *gasp* it's BV isn't  Wink anyway. why don't you download the inSIMenator and use the relationship adjustor? That way you can be mutually best friends with every sims including NPC's in town. it's really funny when you check there relationship panel and they are bffls with social workers and fire fighters

Jordinary, witches came with Apartment Life.

You can use the Insimenator Mortality Adjuster (I think) to make a Sim into a witch, and if you want your witch to be good, evil, neutral, etc. You can also turn off the sparkly aura that shows up around the witch with the Social Adjuster. Although, there is a mod floating around to get rid of the sparkle effect completely. There is also a mod to get rid of the witch title, but that can be done with the Insimenator as well. Just thought I'd mention that, as I cannot stand those things! Ugh! Heh. I'm pretty sure I found both of those mods on MTS2.

If you don't want to cheat, just hang out at a community lot for a while, and like Jenna said, a witch or warlock will eventually show up.

Yup, however, if you have AL there are some mods you may be interested in, here's one from MTS2 and 5 from Carrigon over at Sims2Workshop, for those you'll have to join to download but, like here and at MTS2, it's free - so:

Buyable potion to become good witch or bad witch http://www.modthesims2.com/download.php?t=305916

No glow around witches http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2940

Witches no skin change and wear normal clothes http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2901

Witches keep original sim name http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2907

Pineapple to summon witches to your lot http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2891

No idle witch anims (anims get annoying after a while) http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?t=2909

I currently have and use all of them but the pineapple, I've not downloaded nor tried that one yet.

Thank you, jamesabrown1 (I'm calling you James from now on, because that is way too much to type), those were the mods I was talking about, but too lazy to go look for.  tongue *Floats through wall and into the unknown on the other side*

Halloooooooo. *shakes bones* I go by Jay, but most folks just call me Jaybird. Or did while I was amongst the living. Maybe the site can use Christianlov's old elixir of life to ressurect the lot of us.
