I am currently in the process of renovating the maids in one of my neighbourhoods (I have already done the gardeners in English Tweed) but I need a traditional english maid or housekeepers outfits, you know, long black dress and oversized white apron that covers the front (like the type you see in Agatha Christie adaptations)

The dress isn't black, but it's very well done. All about sims has a series of NPC outfits.

http://www.all-about-style.com/themes_npc.html Perhaps it could be recolored.

There's a maid w/ black dress here, but not a full apron http://www.all-about-style.com/vadult_feca.html

Or the Dickens casual dress might suffice? http://www.all-about-style.com/vadult_feca9.html

Their clothing always looks good in my game.

Try The Sims 2 Graveyard, Sussi had a maid dress identical to your description.

http://sims2graveyard.com/download.html

In the last column of the list, go into 'Sussi's So Good Sims', then into 'Themes' and scroll right to the bottom to find 'Victorian'.
Download the top file 'MaidVictorian.rar' and the file beneath it, which should be the mesh:
'MESHSUSSIChGirlVictorian.rar'

If this isn't the correct mesh file, let me know and I'll find the right one.
