I would hazard a guess and say that the mummy they show in the teaser is an uncontrollable NPC. It's not likely we'll actually be able to play mummies.

The article mentions that you can become a mummy by sleeping in a sarcophagus.  Sims can live a lot longer as a mummy, but the downside is you move much slower than a normal sim and fire is BAD for mummies.

Discoinferno anyone?   YAY

Dutch Sims site Sims3Nieuws posted a big preview of the presentation of World Adventures at GamesCom. It contains some interesting new facts like the new traits and the options concerning holding a vacation.

Interesting, but .... you can't create a family, and you can't live in the country? That can limit things ....

And the game crashing so frequently? Ah, well ... it's just a prototype. I do hope that crashing problem disappears by the time the game is released. That would stink if it didn't.

Why does this game remind me just a little bit of Zelda, or like games with dungeons and treasure chests? Must be that I'm overtired.

Hi Guys

We wanted to keep you informed about the upcoming pricing that has been announced for Sims 3 World Adventures EP. News has now leaked out that the price for the EP has gone up by $10 (US and Australian) and 10 pounds (UK). EA is justifying this price increase by including $10 worth of SimPoints for the Sims 3 Store with the EP.

In the current finacial situation, this increase is unfair to people who don't want to use the store and those suffering the effects of the global financial crisis.

We have started a petition on an official Petition Site, please sign and contribute your voice.

This $10 increase doesn't surprise me given the fact that EA will need to make up for all the pirating before it's release. A gamer magazine (can't remember which, but you can google it online) stated that EA lost a sizable amount of profit with the release of this Base Game, it wasn't quite the blockbuster CEOs had anticipated.

$10 x 1.5 million copies should help make up for that. And I'm sure the whole "10 bucks worth of Sim Points" will be written in fine print in some arbitrary corner of the box....

Actually, we believe that by putting the sim points on the purchase price, EA is making the store more profitable by coercing people to use the sim points in their store. After all, they'll just write off the cost of the additional advertising involved to taxes. That way they don't lose a cent in any case.

That's one of the reasons they've upped the price. Don't bet on there being any real improved content. We think it's just another way to sell the store stuff. EA doesn't like the idea of free content, dontcha know? They used to, but now it's all profit and more money, preferably for them.

They've learned a valuable lesson in the past 5 years-never give a sucker an even break.

It's okay, though. Others have learned valuable lessons, too, like how Pirate Cat doesn't pay for his downloads.

What I find to be fairly intriguing is the fact that the music in the trailer is a track from another EAxis game. Command and Conquer Generals, budget cuts? I don't know but that is a recycled track. Also, J. M. Pescado, I'm a fan of yours with the rebellion against the Electronic Axis and all of that.

edit: Also on a side note, I just reinstalled Simcity 4 a few minutes ago and realized EAxis old motto. EA GAMES Challenge Everything!

the Curse of the Mummy

Beware of Mummies in The Sims 3 World Adventures

In The Sims 3 World Adventures, you can accept challenges, find treasures, discover what’s lurking in hidden caves, tombs and more with the first ever adventure gameplay. While venturing to Egypt, one of three real-world inspired locations you can journey to, watch out for any sarcophagus in the tombs that may have an angry mummy just waiting to put a curse on you. Unless you are a master of the martial arts skill, the mummy will win in a fight and you’ll either be knocked out or cursed. When cursed, you can go to the Sphinx and plead before it in an attempt to find the soul peace statue, which removes the curse. If not, so long Sim!

What’s better than being chased by a mummy? Spend the night in a cursed sarcophagus and find out what it’s like to be a mummy! You will live longer, your energy and bladder motives won’t decay which means no bathroom breaks or sleeping. You’ll be strong, have unique mummy socials, have a longer lifespan, and more. But note, you’ll move more slowly and be prone to catching on fire more easily. But that’s ok, because you’d then be able to come back as a ghost mummy. Cool.

The Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack will ship on November 17, 2009 for the PC and MAC.

Next week we’ll give you a lesson in building your own Tombs from simple to complex then we’re off to China.

Well, that dims things a bit.  I haven't been able to create an account on the Sims3 site, even though I tried for, like, 5 hours straight.  angry  So even the free content and store points that I got with my very expensive Collector's Edition, I can't use!  Needless to say, I'm not very impressed.
