Hello Alterrans, unfortunately we have to say that The Garage is facing a new downtime, the same identical one we had one year ago. We do not know when the site will be up again, and if it will be up at all.

The future of The Garage is hanging on a thin string this time. This time we might risk the definitive closure.

UPDATE:

Hello Alterrans, we have good news: The Garage is up again, and nothing has been lost! The Home Page and the Forum are available again and you can login back and have fun with us again, just like before the downtime.

As you have seen yesterday, The Garage had a short downtime, that made the forum unaccessible to users and the staff itself.

The reason behind this downtime was an attack of an hacker who belongs to the infamous hackers group "Anonymous", which hacked GoDaddy's DNS servers, leading thousand sites, including The Garage, offline.

It required one hour before The Garage was up again -although intermittently-, and finding out the reason of the downtime on Twitter. What Anonymous has done will be remembered as the largest attack to a web host ever. Check out this article to find out more:

After an entire night spent at monitoring the site, we can safely say that The Garage is up again, and the downtime caused by the Anonymous hackers has been successfully restored.

What was done yesterday by this hacker will be remembered as the most deprecable thing ever done by Anonimous. Why?
Just think about all those people who work with their websites. While The Garage is a community of enthusiasts who work basically for free to make a dream -building Alterra- come true, millions of people use their websites to work, to establish a relation with their customers, to communicate with companies, and many other things.

As an admin, what I can say is that I officially deprecate Anonymous' action, which badly harmed all the websites of people who make a living out of them, and I sincerely hope that the authorities will manage to find out the identity of the hacker who took "tango down" the GoDaddy servers yesterday.

Please accept our apologies for the downtime, it wasn't our fault.

We will hope that a similar event won't happen in the future. Thank you for your attention.
