Too many are the villains he portrayed in 60's horror. Most recently, he played Edward Scissorhands' father in that fantastic movie in what I do believe was his final role before his death in '93.
What made him so perfect for the horror genre was his unearthly voice. If you have time, listen as he reads Edger Allen Poe's the Raven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FID1CiB4bcU Now you know why I could not do my spooky celebs theme without him.
