I downloaded three sims today, from this site. When I went to install them, a pop up came up that told me the package needed expansion data that I don't have. I don't understand why it would do this, being that I have every expansion pack installed. None of the downloads say that they need any Stuff packs for the sim to work. I thought maybe my computer was being screwy so I restarted, but the same thing is happening when I try to install them.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Use Clean Installer. It will let you install the sim. If the person who made the sim had stuff packs that you don't have, the EA installer will say that you can't install the sim. But sims are not houses and installing a sim made with an EP or SP you don't have is perfectly safe and will not crash your game. The EA installer is pretty useless anyway and it renames all the custom content files to gibberish. At least with Clean Installer you can identify what you have installed into the game instead of having hundreds of files named strings of letters and numbers.

I do have the Clean Installer, but I have no idea how to use it to install things. I have only ever used it to check my downloads for messed up files.

Right click on the file you want to install (has to be a Sims2Pack file), choose "open with", and then "choose default program". Find and select the clean installer from the list. From then on, the sims 2 pack files will always install using the clean installer when you double click on them  Grin

When installing a sims 2 pack file: If you want to, do changes in what to install (hook off the items you don't want to isntall). If everything is ok, click "install". The default option in the window that pops up is usually set on the downloads folder. If that's ok for you, just click "install" once more. When the "files successfully installed" box comes up, click OK. Now the files should be installed in the Downlads folder Smiley

Engram you solved my issue as well. I had no clue how the endless number-letter names of stuff I couldn't identify got into my games.  I always used the clean installer to repackage files but thought there was no difference for installation, now I know better, thanks.
