Well, most of what you're going to find is going to be in a .rar format. At least this is my experience. You may even come across a few different ones other than .zip or .rar from time to time, so it's within your best interest to use a utility capable of handling a variety of different file compression types, or you're going to find yourself simply unable to use a lot of the custom content out there.There are a lot of free programs that allow you to open multiple file types. Below is a list of file compression/extraction programs (taken from BBB's tutorial on
installing downloads.
WinRAR (

7zip (free PC:

AlZip (free PC:

TUGZip (free PC:

Filzip (free PC:

IZArc (free PC:
http://www.izarc.org/)
UnzipThemAll (free PC:

ICEOWS (free PC:
http://www.iceows.com/)
Stuffit (
$ Mac & PC:
http://www.stuffit.com/) -
Stuffit Expander is free and remains after the 30-day free trial of the full software.
WinRAR and 7zip are the ones most recommended and used, but IZArc supports the most file compression types. If you are going to insist on sticking with Winzip, then you're kind of shooting yourself in the foot, there.
