Can anyone tell me how do you take pictures so that one can see the user interface panels such as in this example

http://images.apple.com/ca/games/articles/2007/04/thesimslifestories/images/shot2.jpg.

Being something of a technophobe I only know how to take the standard pictures, pressing C in live mode, which doesn't show the UI panels.

You need to use your PrtScn button or a screen cap program. There are a number of good free ones. I use Gadwin Print Screen. The advantage to using a program is it will usually take the picture and store it for you, as opposed to hitting your PrtScn button and having to paste it into a document.
