My Sims won't witness alien abductions

I have noticed this issue months ago, but I thought it was only because the family of the abducted sim was busy or something. So one day I had one sim hang out while the other stargazed, but when they got abducted, the sim that was hanging out did not react to the abduction at all, nor had a memory of witnessing the abduction. I have all of the EP's and all of the patches, so what could be causing this issue? What can i do to fix it? Thanks in advance for your help.
