I recently downloaded 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/ and I really don't have a clue how to use it   Embarrassed I downloaded the .exe version, and I have a PC. It went to Program Files. I clicked on a .rar link, but it popped up the same message as when I tried to download a .rar before, (because my PC is only able to download .zips..). I don't know what I've done wrong..

This is a link to the picture, because I tried to resize it but it got all blurry XD

Embarrassed I just noticed that it shows me talking to my "friend" at the bottom XP

.exe files are program files (run-files) and most often the ending on installation files.
You have to actually click on that file and run the installation before 7-zip will work. Just putting it in program files won't work.

If you still get the same message after installing 7-zip, click on "find", and find 7-zip in the list of programmes that most likely will show up.
Either that, or right-click the file, choose "open with", and then "choose default program", and choose 7-zip. Rar files will automatically open with 7-zip from then on.

Did you actually install the program? If you just downloaded it, it won't work. Smiley

Once you have the program installed, all you have to do is double click on the compressed file to open and extract the contents.

Double click on the 7ZIP file you downloaded. The .exe file.

Did you actually try to double-click on the 7Zip .exe file?
Did the installer window come up?
If it did, did you click the "install" button (and "Ok" or "continue" or whatever comes up until "finish" comes up?)
If you do that, and the installer window says the installation was successful, then 7zip is installed.

When it is installed, and if you still have troubles with opening the .rar file, just do what I said in my first post.

Not to be rude, or anything like that, but installing 7zip is even easier than installing the sims games. It's a lot less clicking, no CD's, and takes less than a minute... So if you managed to install the sims games on your own, 7zip really shouldn't be a problem...

:S Sorry, I'm really no good when it comes to computers... I'll try again.  :EDIT:

When I download, it comes to this page :

But, the download never comes up. So I click the circled link.

Then this comes up, and I click run. Who knows what I did wrong? Sorry for being such a hassle

Click save. Choose your desktop as the location and you'll see the 7z465.exe file there. Double click that file and the installation process will start. This is the basic formula for downloading and installing any program from the internet, though I will add it's never a bad idea to scan the file for viruses before you install.
