Is a split screen mod possible?

I've been thinking multiplayer would be awesome but, from searching google I see that LAN and Online are not possible.
What if somebody could make a core mod that allows the game to be played with a split screen?
It could accept input from up to two control sources.
Those being keyboards, and controllers
I also believe that this would allow custom content, as all playing would be done on a single computer.
Alas, I am not an expert on this subject so, I am not sure if this is possible (hence, why I am making a request)
It would be cool if anybody could create said mod.
I also am sorry if this has been asked before; I saw nothing on split screen mods.

The game doesn't support multiplayer.
Would be a huge task to adchieve something like that....
Not possible in my opinion!
