You are such a nut, Rogue Smiley  Thank you.  He rox.  It's too bad you can't make sims look dark and broodish all the time (the profile view is very good though!).

Someone's just got to hack those ridiculous cartoon expressions.  The eyes remind me of those silly cuddly toy birthday cards when they are surprised or smiling.  Surely it must be possible to make them more realistic.

The problem is that only certain elements of the face are animated, so the effects are exaggerated to communicate emotion.  There's been alot of research into how humans can identify mood from thousands of subtle cues in a person's face.  I think as technology advances and we are able to do better motion capture for video games, we'll be able to pick up more of that mood without having to rely on a small handful of exaggerated visual animation elements.

PS. Rogue: That's more like it!  Bah!!!

Well I used to manage ok with Sims1 where their faces didn't change at all.  And if they are intending to convey emotion it's not accurate anyway.  There is no way a shy sim would be as enthusiastic and animated chatting to another sim as an outgoing one, yet their faces are animated just the same.  But in any case, they don't have to be THAT exaggerated no matter what else isn't showing.   A widely opened eye showing surprise doesn't have to get *three* times its normal size in order for the player to work out it's open more widely than usual and therefore the sim is suprised.

Yes, the eyes definitely have a serious Manga-style thing going on.
