No...I've never played it. I don't really play alot of computer games other than sims and american football. Thanks for checking it out. I don't work as fast as the other writers, but I want the story to be a continuing story anyways. I should have 2 new chapters up soon.

some things are worth the wait your photos are very good so we won't rush you.  I know by experience how hard it is to pose some things especially when it's a complicated story.

The mutants initiated their attack from the crop-field. Fire raged that night as they burned the crops.

Horrible creatures with wings and deformed bodies howling in the fire-light. Some of 'em not even smart enough to get out of the crop fields as they burned.

Their primal screams of terror carried throughout the night.

The lead mutant, with mechanical appendages clicking at whoever it could reach, wreaked of a horrible smell. I'll never forget the smell. Just as I'll never forget the smell of burning flesh. Our elders told us stories of burning flesh. Fire from the sky did it to them.

They overwhelmed the men of our villiage who faught valiantly to protect our homes.

The mutants attacked not only with iron and steel...but magical fire. Such creatures must surely be spawn from hell...

It was a total slaughter. Our villiage destroyed within an hour. Everyone died. Except us.

My brother Bobby and I hid in an old root cellar. Our father hid us inside before he went to meet his own hideous death at the hands of those demons.

We held each other through the night....long after the carnage was done. We didn't dare peak out until morning.

For some reason I remembered a story from my Grandma. Something about talking to the scarecrow. When all is lost...talk to the scarecrow. Next morning, when we peaked out and saw our villiage destroyed, I went to that scarecrow. Looking around carefully to make sure they weren't out there...watching. Waiting.

Take my hand Mr Scarecrow...I need help now. WE need help now.

Did the scarecrow respond? Or was that just the wind rustling through the leaves....

I listened closer to be sure....

What was I doing? This dumb old scarecrow wasn't going to say anything! What am I thinking? Listening to the ramblings of a crazy old woman! I'm still a silly schoolgirl, aren't I? Take that Mr. Scarecrow!!

The scarecrow fell over as I kicked him and his clothes fell into disarray. That's when I noticed that the main pole that serves as his body was somehow very strange. It was topped with an ugly goblin-head...I grabbed the pole, wanting to smash it into tiny bits.

But something felt strange as I lifted it over my head. There was a flash of light from the sky. Brighter than lightning. It washed over me and I felt a surge of power coming from the pole.

A warmth filled my body and lifted all the sorrow. My head felt dizzy, but my legs held. Bright lights flashed before my eyes. Suddenly I felt powerful. And i felt direction. Suddenly there was something I needed to do. Someplace I needed to go. Far from here.

I called out for Bobby. He'd gone on his own to look for survivors. Where did he suddenly get THAT courage from? He's always been afraid of his own shadow. We managed to scrounge a bit of food and loaded a barrel into one of the wagons. Miraculously the mutants didn't kill all the horses. Didn't destroy all the wagons. Dumb creatures. If I had been them, I'd have....stop! Now where were THOSE thoughts coming from? I could never be like them. I could never kill! Well....strangling a chicken for a meal is different. Isn't it?

Well, there's only one thing left to do, and that's leave this place. Get to the city where people are safer in numbers. Some other reason to go there...but I can't place why. But as God is my witness I will find out why, or my name isn't Darlyn O' Brien!

**********************************************************
Darlyn is a teen version of DL Mulsow's self sim

Chapter 4 will be up very soon....sorry for the wait.

It is definately getting interesting.  Darlyn and Bobby have a long journey I'm sure.  ...and what is that powerful staff she found??  Could it be a key to their future?

PS:  You din't haf to say it was my self sim...LOL  Now I'm embarrassed.

The story is very neat and does indeed have a "Stand" feeling about it.  People being driven together to survive.  Awesome story Mule!  Can't wait for more.

The quickest, safest way through the city was underground. Through the old subway system. And the sewers. You never know when you'd run into a hotspot on the surface. Or unfriendlies. Or worse. We headed north to go see Smitty and resupply on ammo. Smitty lived at a place called Times Square. Not the old surface Times Square. Not even near is really. Our Times Square is underground, in a cavern where a bunch of the subway tracks meets. Some people had what passed for permanent dwellings there. But there were alot of transients. Wanderers. People who'd knife you for a slab of bread. Or just for fun.

***********************************************

We heard a loud rumbling behind us, to our south....Dead-eye hit the ground ready for action as the tunnel rocked.

***********************************************

Doc jumped back to the wall. He can be a little shakey in times of duress. But then, he's seen worse sights than any of us have.

***********************************************

Two-lou and I got down and ready for action. I know what you're thinking. No...not THAT kind of action. Potential fire-fight action...like this...

***********************************************

When the rocking and rumbling stopped a dust cloud swept through the tunnel. We decided to backtrack a bit and see exactly what happened.

***********************************************

Everyone was on high alert.

***********************************************

Doc: I don't like the feel of this Zargon. This isn't safe. Let's just getting heading back to Smitty's.

Zargon: Just a little further Doc. Remember the rumors about cave-ins? We need to check this out...

***********************************************

Two-Lou: I'm with Zargon on this, Doc. We need to know how bad that shaker was.

***********************************************

Dead-eye: I third that motion.

***********************************************

It didn't take long before we ran into track rabbit migration. Moving north. We had plenty of food. We'd let 'em live for hunting some other day.

***********************************************

A few hundred yards later we found out why. Cave-in. Damnit! The entire tunnel width was blocked.

***********************************************

Dead-eye: Hahaha...we can't go back...

***********************************************

Zargon: Oh great...he got into the morphine again! Doc, when are you gonna learn to lock that stuff up?

***********************************************

Two-Lou: It's not Doc's fault, Zargon. I slipped some into his food earlier. Gotta mellow him out some. Otherwise he starts with the nuggies...next thing you know he's trying to grope me! I'm sorry. I didn't realize we'd need him to be coherant.

***********************************************

Doc (thinking): Why did I save these people?

***********************************************

Doc: There, there, little one. It'll be OK. It's not entirely your fault. I slipped him some too. Amazing how high his tolerance is to the stuff, is it not?

***********************************************

Realizing there was no way back home, we turned back and headed to Smitty's. The next couple hours went without incident.

We were all happy to see Smitty, and he was certainly happy to see us.

***********************************************

Smitty: Welcome Zargon!!! Greetings friends!!! It has been weeks since your last visit!

***********************************************

Smitty: Come to see Miss Annie's girls, eh, Zargon? She's got a few new ones since you were last here...

***********************************************

Smitty: But no.....Zargon has no need for rented women! Have you come for supplies? Just tell me what you need....

***********************************************

Zargon: Our usual fix on ammo, my friend. Hey...have you heard anything about cave-ins to the south? We had one slide in behind us on our way here. I don't even know if we can dig our way back...

***********************************************

Zargon: And have you heard any other news about mutant attacks from down there?

***********************************************

Two-Lou: Is there someplace to requisition clothes around here Smitty? These things gotta go!

***********************************************

Zargon: Shoot me now Smitty...I'm travelling with morons. I jest. Seriously, I'm kidding. We're going to need your help....

***********************************************

Dead-eye: He was only kidding about the brothel, Two-Lou. I know how you feel about Zargon. If only....

***********************************************
