Can any one tell me how to build a covered veranda I know how to do it for sims 1 but to do it for sims 2 I've got no clue

Probably the easiest way is to put walls up around where the porch won't have walls, place a roof, delete the walls and add fences and columns.  The problem with this is unless you have Pets and can use the cheat for individual roof slope angles, it will have the same roof slope and the main house.

Another option would be to use a flat roof if the house design allows it.

The last option I know would be to use the constrain floor elevation cheat to give some slope to a flat roof.  This will take some compromise though with either the entire floor being raised or an awkward angle inside or outside the house where the interior floor needs to return to the original floor level.

Hope this gives you enough to get started with.
