Can someone explain to me if .NET different versions are totally different thing or is later version is simply the upgrade of earlier version?

My situation is, I have .NET 1.1 for clean installer and .NET 2 (that comes with the cd) for my video editor. My video editor has error when installing (Microsoft SQL or is it QSL server problem) and only works for one day. I suspect it's the .NET problem because:

1) when I install the editor the first time, I didn't have .NET 1.1 and the editor worked. But I uninstall it because didn't need it (including .NET2) at that time
2) The second time I install, I have both .NET 1.1 and .NET 2. When I want to uninstall .NET 2, I have two option - to repair or to uninstall. I tried repair, but when I restart I still have the repair option, so I assume it's still have problem and my editor still won't install properly.

So, can both .NET 1.1 and .NET 2 co-exist and work independently, or can I only have either one?

You should only need one.  Try going with .NET 2 and see if you can get every thing to work the way it should.

Ok so, clean installer would be able to work with .NET 2 ?
Should I uninstall both version and reinstall version 2 or just uninstal 1.1 only?

I'd uninstall both, then reinstall .NET 2.  I believe it has all the functionality of 1.1, but it's been a while since I looked at the docs for it.

Ok clean installer does work with .net 2.0 but I still can't install my editor properly. This is what I get:

Microsoft SQL server Desktop Engine
Setup failed to configer the server. Refer to the server error log and setup error log for more info.

I have no idea what's the problem is. When I check from add/remove program, I still have the repair option.
Anyone has any idea?

Do you have the SQL Server Desktop Engine?  If so and you haven't already, you may need to initialize it some how.  Check in the log files that it keeps for the two error logs you get when trying to run the editor.

Ok I have no idea what SQL Server Desktop Engine is. I check my program files, there is a SQL server folder, so I guess that should mean I have it right?. There are a bunch of folders within folders in there that I don't understand and couldn't find any error longs.

Sorry, I'm not very tech savvy :toothy5:

Sounds like you have it.  Other than suggesting you look at the error logs, I can't be of much help since I don't have SQL Server.
