Try deleting your groups.cache file

Downloaded furniture shouldn't crash your game, at best they just wont show up or flicker or something.

What hacks do you have? Anything recent from somewhere dodgy?

if consider the CEP (or what ever its called) a hack than i downloaded that right before i ran the game but i deleted the files. is there still more to do to get rid of it? what is a groups .cache file.

it was all furniture and 2 floors is all i downloaded. weird thing is it came from MTS2...

Downloaded furniture can cause a crash if it has a mesh that requires an EP/SP that you don't have.  Looking at the games listed in your profile, that may very well be what the problem is.

Try using Sims 2 Clean Installer to scan your downloads folder. Hacks 'n stuff will be highlighted in red. If you have any all you have to do is right-click on it in the list and choose Delete and it will remove it for you.

I got that darned Mailbox hack from something I downloaded from MTS2 once. Don't know which item it came with but it still haunts me when I bring my old DL's back from my back-up discs. GRRR!!!

Just to add, you do need the CEP file for furniture and paintings to show in your game. That will not cause your game to crash. Make sure you have the one for the EP's you have. Smiley Also use Clean Installer and sort your downloads by date, you can then move items you downloaded since your game last ran properly to your desktop and load your game. If it loads you will know it was an item you removed. Groups cache can be found under My Documents/*your user name*/EAGames/Sims2 it is safe to remove this as the game will regenerate the file the next time you load your game.

Sims 2 Clean Installer can be found here:
http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/

What I had wasn't just a pretty mailbox- it was a mailbox hack. In a way it was kind of nifty- click on the mailbox and it would give you all kinds of options like "Make Everyone Your Friend", etc. It also messed up my game.

Don't forget to move out your downloads folder before you reinstall, as the game will delete it. Sorry if that sounds stupid but I have seen many a person forget to do it and they lose all downloads
