Lets say there is this file named 'Shabbalabadingdong'sfile1' and I rename it to 'clothes23' and there is NO other file with the same name, will it affect the file or Sims 2 if I rename the download? Thanks!

Clothes? Nope!

I try to keep the creator's filenames intact so I know if I have duplicates.

I name my subfolders and rename my sims2.package files other than the original names without a problem. I just dont mess with the file internal contents. Although this is from my personal game play, I cant speak for others or what the cons are of doing this.

Clothes, accessories, hair (most hair, I've had a few go MIA in game when I renamed them), mostly anything that's not a hack wouldn't do anything. Hacks shouldn't be renamed.

I'd say if you were someone who is picky about having duplicates in your downloads folder, you might want to keep the same name, just in case you end up redownloading the same type of clothes by accident.  Depending on how your game reacts, it's sometimes good, or sometimes iffy.

Other than that, it's really up to you whether you want to rename them on your computer or not.  Wink

I remove all numbers, like say I get a recolor of an outfit and it's a bunch of numbers. I give the same name as the original color and add like B for blue, or G for green. So I never remove anyone's names in fact if their name is on the original file I know it's not on the recolors, all that's there is a bunch of numbers, but now it is. I haven't had any problems with them so far. I'd never share those files anywhere because it's not how I received them. That's why I also keep a copy of all zips on my external subdivided into categories. I have the original zip, as well as the TOS included in them.

I also renamed hacks a couple of times, somtimes creators (fewer than the majority) have tendancies of having a couple of numbers than a simple discription.
