Report:

Ok, I checked the hacked grade option on a home lot.  I used boolpropcheats to make my visiting YA selectable, and sent him off to the computer to hack those grades.

He had a low logic skill, and sure enough got busted.  Everything worked exactly the way it does on a university lot; though obviously it was his parents' household funds that got docked the $450 fine, and their computer that got repoed!

So, all is well using this feature on a home lot.

However, Squinge........though they are able to write their term papers at a computer and do assignments,  I'm not getting the "college....research" option when clicking on bookcases on home lots. Can this be added?

Version 1.a You should now be able to do college research, I only had bookgloblas in the previous version & missed the one from bookcase globals.

Squinge (I know you are going to read this on Monday), this one worked fine in my game. The YA go to class and do their assignments, research, everything normal. The terms are not shown (you never said they would). It's always the 1st term. Is it supposed to be like this? Another question: do they do the final exam?

In order for the college timer/clock to work (so they can move on to each semester and eventually graduate) you have to use the Semester Tester.

You click on it and select "start class." This does not start just their specific class that they attend, but the entire college timer. The time stops when you select "end class", and can be resumed at any time. "Go to class" will come up on it's own, and they will gain credit for going. To change majors, select "College" and then select a major, or you can use the Education adjuster from the InSIMenator. If you do this in the middle of the semester, it will reset the "hours until final" back to 72 hours. "Go to final exam" showed up a little late, but the option to send to final by clicking on the sim (College.../Go To Final Exam) was there at the correct time. When they return from their finals, they will have completed the first semester and move on to the next. If the student makes the Dean's list, the money will go into the household.

The Semester Tester is available by typing "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" in the cheat console. Shift+click on the sim and select "Spawn.../Semester Tester" It looks like the big apple sculpture. There is a downloadable version at MTS2, also.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Squinge, for this awesome mod!

Interesting thing I noticed since posting. Partway through the second semester she was unable to go to class. She would leave the lot and immediately return. I still made her work her grade up and when finals came again the same thing happened at one hour before final exam. The notice for her to go shows up at the time it is supposed to start (0 hours before final), and she ran off to the exam, and returned immediately, but she passed the finals anyway and moved on to her sophomore year, got the extra slots and everything - so I suppose it isn't that bad, but I thought that might interest you.

I hope this mod is not necessary for the YAtoTeen mod. I've been having quite hard times trying to stop reading interactions. All my houses with basement now have a very deep hole where I bury all Bookcases, telescopes and other disturbing objects.
Question: What happens to those Home YAs when they finish the age (do they age?) or should I decide self how long they are going to be YA?

This mod is separate from the teen to YA mod, for the aging with version 1a they stay a young adult until you have them grow up.

Hmm, well alas I have found this not to be the case at all.

Using the Semester Tester does indeed allow the clock to progress, but I've found there's no autonomous going to Class or Finals. Not a problem in itself, as one can always nudge the sim into going by clicking on him/her.

But, once the timer reaches 1 Hour until Final, the sim can head off to the Exam sure enough, but the timer never hits zero, it just stays at 1. The sim then returns from the Exam, with GPA increase for Class attendance, but the timer still shows "1", and there's no progression to the following semester.

Don't know why. :-s

Edit: Oooooh, I think I may have the answer. My sim had just returned from her Exam(which had been treated as just "Class", and with no semester progression).... but once home, I switch "Aging On" on the Lot(it'd been off, y'see).

She immediately got the nudge to go to her exam, On the Hour, and autonomously dashed off to it... her status NOW says, "Final Exam in Progress", which didn't happen before.

I'm just now waiting for her to return from the Exam, and HOPEFULLY it'll put her through to the next Semester.

So, I THINK it's just a uestion of Aging.

I'll soon see. Smiley

Could somebody who has this working post step by step instructions on how to get a teenager through college at home (assuming this is actually possible?)  I'll explain what I did, what did and didn't work.  I had this mod installed and I picked up the downloadable Semester Tester at MTS2 and put it in the house.

1) Changed teen to young adult instantly with the Insimenator Temporal Adjuster.

2) Went to computer and chose major.

3) Started class with the Semester Tester.

4) My student could NOT go to class, autonomously or otherwise.  There were no college options when I clicked on the Sim except "do assignment."  However, not being able to attend class didn't seem to do any harm.

5) I had them do research, write term paper, and do assignments periodically during the 72 hour semester so their grade was at least in the white range.

6) When it got to final time, same as going to class, they couldn't go.  The clock would eventually tick to -2 hours and still read "Final Exam in Progress."  This is where I was stuck.

7) Used the Semester Tester to switch them to the next semester.  This didn't seem to work.  So I went with Twojeffs College Adjuster (I think that's what it's called, it's a stack of phone books.)  That did the trick.

8 ) Graduation - discovered that hitting "Graduate" immediately maxes all their skills. :!:    I don't want that, so I quit without saving, then went back and tried "Graduated" (past tense.)  That gave them a diploma and left their skills where they were.

9) Changed student to Adult instantly with the Temporal Adjuster (a birthday didn't work - it took them straight to elder.)

So it works, but not perfectly.  I don't know why my Sims can't go to class, but I really don't mind because the idea is that they're taking a college correspondence course or something so they wouldn't actually be going to class anyway.   But I'd like the transition from semester to semester to be smoother.  I'm considering not even using the Semester Tester and just using Twojeff's hack to put them wherever I want them semester wise.

Anyway I was just wondering if anybody who has this really working right could post how they do it.  I probably have a hack conflict or something that's causing my students not to be able to go to class.

Oh also, with this they can be a college student AND have a job.  The only problem is their job data panel doesn't show up.  But the carpool will come and the job works normally.

Edited to Add:  After reading the previous post I'll note, I did have aging ON in the household. Smiley
