I was cleaning out my downloads folder and I found this odd file.

The only description it had was, Replacement.

What exactly is a replacement file?!!?

I'm thinking it's one of those odd files you get my installing a Sims 2 package.

It's 6,087 MB and it has a long string of letters and numbers for a file name.

Thank you.

Get rid of it.  It's a clone of the Sims06.package file that's found in your Sims3D (or just plain "3D") folder in your C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 (and/or name of EP) directory.  It's not needed, and something stupid that EA decided to do as of BV.  (Because it comes with certain packaged sims, along with the custom content on said sims)  Nothing but a complete waste of space.  :?

I'm bumping my own thread, I know......Stone me, leer at me, throw rotten eggs and tomatoes at me........Whatever blows your dress up.... Smiley

But, I have another question relating to cleaning out my downloads folder.

I downloaded this one set. Now, the zip file contained these .bak files. Do I actually need them in my downloads folder? My game starts and is playable. I'm thinking I need those in there for the recolor(s) to work.

It's more of a curiosity than anything.

Thank you.

Again.

Hey^^
''In DOS systems, a file with a.BAK extension, indicating that the file is a backup. Many applications produce BAK files as part of their autosave procedure. Periodically, you may want to search for BAK files and delete old ones.'' [ taken from http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/B/BAK_file.html ]
So it looks like it's just a backup - maybe part of a recovery file from the rar/zip? I think it should be safe to delete :s

You might also want to look at this:

I'm not sure but if it's just a back up then it implies that you've got an original and a back-up, which you shouldn't need.
I don't know if Sims 2 recognises that extension as CC that it can use?

Yes, the .bak files are perfectly safe to delete, since Sims 2 doesn't read that file extension.  Those are usually spawned when files have been edited in SimPE and the changes are saved.  All of them are really just as explained:  backups from the previous copy.  So, if something happens to the original file, changing the .bak extension to .package brings up the workable backup copy.
