I've just installed AL today and was it was working ok (not cc) but after a while it crashed with the message "Sims 2 Apartment Life was terminated as Direct 3D returned error D3DERR-NOTAVAILABLE"
There is
nothing
in my game - hacks, objects no cc whatsoever.
Also there is no error log in the Sims 2 Logs folder.
It's happened three times at different stages of game play, in different hoods and with different families.
What is going on? Can anyone help : )

That is a graphics card error. Try updating drivers and making sure it's set to let the application decide not for your preference for performance or quality.
