My game won't start at all. I was just playing this morning, saved, exited  game and shut down pc. Came back to play a few minutes ago, clicked on icon to start game, and get a small square shaped window with a red circle with an X in it, an "ok" icon to click on, the red "x" button to close the window and the sims logo in it. And thats all. I've tried restarting pc, going in directly from programs, taking disk out and re inserting it, everything I can think of, and nothing works. I've never had anything like this happen before.
If anyone can help me, I'd so very much appreciate it. Thank you.

Did you try deleting your groups.cache, accessories.cache?

Found them. They're in the  EA games/sims2 folder in my documents. Go figure:), I'm a dumbass sometimes. Anyway, groups. cache is a 2.32 mb size file and accessories is a 21.3 mb size file. So I should delete them both?

Yep, delete them.

The game makes new ones when you start the game up.

Cool...Just deleted them. Going to try starting again. If I'm not back in 2 minutes, then everything's cool. Thank you very much for the help.

Hey, hey, hey!!!!! It worked. Game's up and running fine again. I am very curious as to what those files are and how they can affect the game like that. Also if I should delete them periodicaly or wait untill I have problems again. Again, thank you very, very much for the help EKozski. You rock.

I'd say save yourself the future headache, and delete them every time you're finished playing the game.  That way, you won't have to worry about those two particular files causing that problem.

As for the file functions themselves... they're just used by the game to store temporary data during gameplay.  Sort of like what your internet browser cache does when you're web surfing... it saves some data so when you go back to something, it comes up quicker than when you first started up.  At least, that's my guess on it.  Wink

Just to add what Tenshii (:love4:) said, everytime I add or take something out of my downloads folder, I always delete the groups.cache file. And, every now and then, I delete the files inside the Thumbnails Folder.

Just one of the many habits I learned how to do.

I'm glad I could help, sabresfan.

Cool...thanks for the info and tips Tenshii. And EKozski, I'll remember to do that every time I download anything. Can't thank you enough for everything. It amazes me that two small files can reek so much havock.
