Can''t place items in certain parts of the apartment

For some reason, I can't place items in the kitchen.  I can in every other room of the house, but once I get to the kitchen I can't.  I tried removing arches and just having the space open from the living room through the kitchen, but still no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you have that Step Over fence from Pets where the Kitchen is, it counts that as a "common area" when its a Apartment..

Thanks...I had one in and took it out.  It works now.  Do arches do this also?

No, arches are fine to use and won't cause that problem.
