I am having problems installing custom sims in my game.  I have had these sims in my game before, but have since uninstalled and reinstalled everything.  I just downloaded them and attempted to put them back into my game and I'm getting error message, after error message, after error message! huh  I am using Q-Xpress and it's telling me that the files are already open, subscript out of range, or permission denied.  I haven't done anything differently, so I don't know why this is happening!  Any help would be much appreciated!  Hopefully, this is my last post of issues!!  Haha, I can only dream! =)

Thanks in advance!

Q-Express is no longer supported nor functional -- anywhere, for anything.

Thanks for the info.  I've been using it for a long time without any problems, but since it's no longer supported anywhere... what should I be using?  Perhaps that will solve my problem =)

If the files are still in .zip or .rar format, you can use one of the zipping programs available out there on the Internet.

Winzip:

This little program is a good tool to unzip or unrar the files as well as letting you zip up the files to upload someplace. Winzip isn't free but it does have a trial period to let you try it out.

Izarc:

This program is exactly the same as Winzip, but it is very easy to use to unzip the files, add new files to existing zipped files or zip up any files to upload someplace. The program is free to use and works for many platforms: Linux, Windows XP/Vista, Unix and so on. Izarc doesn't have a trial period, and the team at Izarc appreciates the donations to continue the project to improve and update the features of the program.

I use Izarc myself and would recommend the above for those of you who can't afford a nice program like Winzip.

Clean Installer:

This tool is an alternative to those who had experience using Q-Xpress in the past when downloading the files from MTS2. Unfortunately, Q-Xpress was discontinued after it was reported to have issues downloading and installing the files properly.

Clean Installer offers users flexibility to install files where they want them to be installed, install the basic files without any extra junk and so on.

The information about the program is provided at the site hosting Clean Installer.

For downloading files, just download them as you would anything else. Either by left-clicking on the file and Saving it or by right-clicking and using Save Target (or similar language in the right-click menu, the precise wording being dependent on your own browser and settings).

For unpacking files (that is, extracting contents of zip or rar files), my own recommendation is 7-zip:

http://www.7-zip.org

For opening and installing Sims2pack files, use Clean Installer:

http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/

which is also very useful for managing your installed files and for keeping that Downloads folder trim.

Didn't you notice that the link to Clean Installer was already posted in a previous post?

Anyway, there are various zipping programs out there that you can look at and decide for yourself which one suits your needs.

Let us know if you were able to get the files installed successfully.

Yes, I did. I'm not claiming credit for it, just giving a second boost to the recommendation.

As to decompression programs, naturally it is a matter of personal preference. My own happens to be slanted to 'Why have two programs taking up space on your machine when one small one can accomplish both tasks.'

As always, to each his/her own.

If a link was already provided along with the information, leave it be. Anyway, moving on.

Alright, I don't think I'm meant to use any of these sims anymore =*(  When I double click on the sims2pack file to install it with Clean Installer, the Installer pops up but there's nothing listed to be installed.  Does that make sense?  I'm not sure what the deal is!  Thank you all for the help =)  Perhaps I'll get it figured out someday! tongue

Does any of the file show up in Clean Installer when you right-click the file and select Open with Clean Installer (worded differently but you get the idea)?

Well, you do have to unzip the zipped files to the desktop first before you use Clean Installer.

Thank you!!!  Silly me!  I didn't realize I needed to unzip it first!  I unzipped it to my desktop, then opened it with clean installer and there it was!!!  I just checked my game and it's there =)  Thanks to Sola and rwills for taking the time to help me out!  Please let me know if I can help either of you in the future!
